THERE HAVE BEEN 2 671 CASES AND 505 DEATHS—THE DISEASE IN 1,200 FAMILIES
The Colonist Says : Head C yastable Winslow is ssnguine in the belief that at last the board of health has got the proper grip on diphtheria, and that ifa few more fine days follow, the last case will have been heard of. There a as been no new house placar — since Thursday last, and only two ne cases reported, and those from an old idle, Now that the epidemic has all but disappeared, it may not be un- interesting to give the number of cases, ete According to the head constable's ‘tittle book,” then, there were 2,671 cases of diphtheria since the beginning of the outbreak ; of this nember 508 died. The number of families in which the outbreak appeared was slightly over 1,200, Assum- ing that there are 6,000 families in town (and it is safe to place the number at that fizure), it will be seen that one-iifth of the families in town had diphtheria in their houses.
