In the last few weeks several incidents have occured in Memorial Hall where damage and mischief have caused hardship on others in the building. I do not condone these incid— ents but I would like to raise the question, why are these damages and pranks happening. ' I f '

So far Student Service's policy has been to find the person responsible punish this person and then close the case. Let me ask the question, are they not shirking their responsibilities. Should they not be asking why are these things happening. What can we do, now, to prevent these occurances from happening again. Punishment and threats have failed.

'Why can't/Student Services see that the psychological effect of the building on its occupants are part of the reason for such damages and pranks. It is a vent for frustration, a vent‘ which is created by the dreary, humanistically- degrading lack lustre building. Maybe when the Administration, and Student Services show some respect for the students dignity in this building then maybe

some respect for the buil-

ding. , So far neither side is willing to make'the first

move. Why can't both parties

act together, forget the past and work for the future. Let's not have both parties fall into their own narrow views, such as the view of the

student who damages Memorial because its a hole, or the

views of Jim Griffith who was heard to say,"these

sick animals will be brought, ‘. ‘

It seems that the Cadre must be hard-up for articles. For weeks, we have been reading items on International Woman's Year and how these poor women are always being put down by men. These articles, on I.W.Y. and all the hackling that we have been subjected to over this matter is no— thing but a lot of bull:

Women, as far as I am concerned can do any job they want — that is, if they aren't afraid of getting their finger nails dirty, their make—up mess- ed—up and their hair dis- arrayed . If they weren't ,such femanists (and Chauv- anists) we would not have to listen to all this rub— ish. ' _ . Women stop blaming - men for putting you down and start blaming your- selves. ‘ /:

I was appalled when I read the article on"R.C.M.P. Interogation Techniques" in laSt week's Cadre. I was very disturbed to find the R.C.M.P. using techniques

I feel the R.C.M.P. have disgraced itself and the canadian peo- ple, it supposedly protects, with the use of such dehum- anising and degrading tech- niques. It is a crime, and as such, should be prosecut— ed. . 1 What we need in Canada is a law inforcement agency who will protect us from the ones already in exist- ence.

Dear Editor,

I would like to protest the system of patronage th- atﬁexists when students are hired for positions such as bartenders, ticket-sellers, and campus‘police. It would appear that a small "click" who do the hiring end - up providing jobs for their ‘friends at grossly inflated salaries and at the expense of the Student Union. _

The Campus Police don't do what they are hired to do which is prevent vandalism at the Barn during the Pig and Whistles. Why should six campus police be paid. $10 a night as well as re- ceive a free case of. beer for picking up a few bot— tles? Why should the stu-

bill for 15 jackets for the C.P. at a cost of $100 when they,d9h't do anything‘any— way?‘ '

The job *of providing security for Pig anerhistn 1es used to be handled by two campus police who would call the seCurity officers, in the basement oerain if any trouble developed. This waSn't only more efficient, but also far '1ess costly for the students. The rea- son there is so much feath- erbedding now is because this Eclick" is employing as many of its members and their friends as possible. All aboard for the Gravey- Train.
