ST. PETEES CATHEDRAL A. Y, P. A.—Wlth Lent coming on with lots of work and worship, it was decided to have an evening of just. plain fun at the St. Peter's Cathedral A. Y. P. A. meeting last night. There was a short business meeting first. then Mr, Dickson picked the can for the spring play. Games of skill, brains and acting along with old time and modern dancing made up a pro- gram that filled the cvening with fun and fellowship. Lots of lunch was a. highlight of the evening and the meeting came to a happy ending with the singing of Auid Lang Syne.

The regular iii-weekly meeting of the Kinsmen Club was held in the Charlottetown last night, Vern Shute presided with Fremont. Archer as co-clmirman. Guests for the evening were Mr. Stewart Lee and Mr. James Jardirie. Wai- iace Higgins and Ronald Smith were introduced as new members. Fifteen boxes of groceries, meat and Vegetables ware distributed to the needy families of Charlotte- town, after which Mrs. Roy Smaii~ man, guest speaker for the even- ing, gave a very interesting talk on the training of and etsablish- lug of a home for the mentally re- tarded cliildrcn of Prince Edward Island.

Mrs. Smallman emphasized the fact; that i; i; very difficult to find out. just how many mentally retarded children there are in this Province. She said, "Theri- are schools for the blind, for the deaf and dumb, hut the mentally re- tarded child is offered no form of education or training by the government schools yet."

Volunteers were grilled for two teams to take part in the coming Boy Scout financial drive.

WHITEHORSE. Y.T.. Feb. 9 — (GP) — Sir.- paru-rescue men in- eluding a doctor today parachuted to a Yukon mountain top to bring aid to 10 men, marooned since Tuesday beside their damaged search plane. Three of those stranded have limb fractures.

The parachutista jumped from an R.C.A.F. Dakota and landed within 300 yards of the damaged search plane, lying on a barren. snow-covered slope near the moun- tain‘s peak, The plane crash-land- ed while illliiblllg a missing 0-54 transport, gone two weeks with 44 aboard.

Meanwhile, a new clue was re- ported in the search for the 0-54 which disappeared Jan. 26 with i4 aboard. A "ham" radio operator in South Dakota reported picking up e series of SOS signals late yes- terday which gave a position at. 130 W and 60 N. followed by the letters "NO F0." The operator. Bob Wagner of Lead, S.D.. said the signal faded out but he thought the last ovord was food.

The position is 42 miles ive-‘b southwest of Watson Lake. an area that has been swept; several times. While treating the report with caution. search officials again dispatched planes to thc area.

Island Priest is Noted For Work Among The Eskimos

A Prince Edward Islander who has found his place tn the world in far off Skagway, Alaska, is Rev_ Father Edgar Gallant.

The six-foot-threc priest iviis born in Rustico, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gallant, and has been working among the Eskimos 1°!‘ 33 Years. He is now head of

founded in 1931, and is senior priest of Alaska and a member of ‘the Alaskan Department of Public Welfare.

Father Gallant teaches mathe- matics and Latin and now has la staff of nine sisters, two fathers {and a layman to teach '70 boys ‘and girls from grade one right through high school.

At the mission this year they 8TB trying Out a new system and apparently it is working out fine. Instead of teaching four subjects all year, they teach each subject for three months. That wuy stu- dents concentrate on one thing, have one teacher, and write one examination per quarter instead of four at the end of a tcrm,
