TOKYO. Aug. l5-(Tuesday)- Korean Communists today shoved 1.000 troops over the Nslrtong River in a new crossing on the central front where they have massed some 60,000 men for an all-out drive on the key American base of Taegu.

The new crossing was south of Tuksong. 14 air miles southwest of Tsegu. This is near the junction of the U. S. 1st Cavalry and M-fh Division sectors on the river bar- rier. It was about 15 miles north of the attacking 24ih's attempt to wipe out tithe 12.000 Reds who crossed the Naktcng near Chang- nyong, 23 air miles southwest Taegu.

Should the new spearhead crack the southern flank of the 1st Cav- alry. it could turn south against the northern flank of the 24th. lsi. Five Forest Fires Break Out in Eastern N. B.

HAMPTON. N. B., Aug. 10-Five small forest fires broke out in Eastern New Brunswick today, District Forester L. D. Black re- ported tonight. Three were brought under control.

These three occurred in the Clo- ver Valley area near the site where Saint John's new airport is being built: at Chamberlain settle- ment. 15 miles from Sussex. and Flat Rock Brook. near Cole's ls- ianrl, Queens County. The latter covered about eight acres.

Another outbreak, at Fork Stream. near Pangburn, Queens County, burned across two acres in an area inaccessible immediate- ly. Men were expected to reach the scene on foot tomorrow.

New Statement By Rail Heads

MONTREAL. Aug. lit-(Cr-1-.... The presidents of the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways said tonight in a Joint statement that "no new proposals of any kind have been made by -- ihe representatives of the unions in an effort to bring about a settlement of the wage dispute."

Presidents Donald Gordon of the Canadian National and W. A. Mother of the Canadian Pac- iflc Railways denied rumors that the companies Ire about to make a new offer to bring a. settlement to the wage-hour dis- pute between 16 international railway unions and two Can- adian Brotherhoods that repre- sent a total of 124,000 non-op- crating employees of four Can- adian railways.

The traffic question came to the fore at the monthly meeting of the City Council last night as the Council members voted unanimously to install 1.50 more parking meters and dismissed the costs of prov- iding the City with traffic lights.

The time and place of the park- ing meter installation will be decid- ed by the council's Police and Street committees. Purther outside the Province ccmmunic ions will have to be carried out before the traffic light question will be de- clded.

Councillor C. M. Cox. chairman of the Police Committee stated that the parking meter installation was another experiment. The fifteen meters installed in front of the liquor store two months were prov- ing successful f' ' lly. he stated, as each meter was returning more than 04 a month.
