choli- director at . Dunstanls Basilica died suddely at eight o'- clock Friday mornlng In the Char- lottetown Hospital. Death followed a heart seizure about one hour earlier on the steps of the Basilica.

The late Mr. Chaissoii, who as- sumed dlrectlon of the Basilica choir following the death of W. J. Brown in August 1948. was on his way to sing the 7 o'clock Mass when he collapsed. He was im- mediately rushed to hospital but he failed to rally. despite every med- ical effort to save him.

A highly popular and most ef- ficient government employee, Mr. Chalsson joined the Department of Education staff on March 25. 1946. as purchasing agent at The Voc- ational School.

In May 1948 he was transferred to the department's main office in the Provincial Building. where he became assistant secretary of ed- ucation. a position he held until March 31 of this year when he was promoted to the position of sec- retary of Education.

In addition to this. the late Mr. Chalsson was secretary of the Teachers Superannuation Com- mission.

Mr. Chaisson saw service with the non-Permanent Active Mll- Itia from July 1938 to November 1940. On November 13 of that year he went on active service and re- ceived his honourable discharge December 19. 1945. During his five years of active service. he ser- ved in Canada and Europe. attain- ing the rank of Quartermaster Sgt. Major with the 1st Canadian Brig- ade.

CITATION

He received a citation when overseas from Field Marshal Mont- gomery "for outstanding service beyond the call of duty' .
