In the 2.15 Trot and Pace that top notch trottcr Millie Kalmuck, a great favorite with all race faru, won the first heat in 2.11 1-2 and the second heat in 2.11 which is a new record for Millie, her former record being 2.12. How- ever. with the handicap of having gotten off very badly she struck the trot and mowed down all opposi- tion to win the race and take her new record of 2.11,

The Classified Trot and Pace was a real sizzler of a contest with s very evenly matched field. The first heat was won by Uscita Brit- ton in a "highliner" finish. when they entered the stretch Bonnie Scott wu. back almost a. length to the rear o! Usclta, Britten, but came with a. terrific rush which almost caught driver Scmple off guard. but there remained suffi- cient space for him to get in his fine work and the battle between driver Semple and Kelly to the wire was worth seeing. Bonnie Scott, by the way. will bear watch- ing. The writer seldom remembers such a. "shoot" as she took for about 25 yards. Bonnie van the third heat, just nosing out Lusty Frisco in the last stride. It was probably the closest finish of the day. June Evans 2.10 1-2 went a nice comfortable race and will be good later on.

President calls General meeting

OTTAWA, July 18—(CP)—Jarnes McCaffery, President of the Inter- provincial Rugby Union, has call- ed a general meeting o! the union for next Thursday morning in T:r- onto. it was announced tonight by Wes Brown, league secretary.

All clubs will be represented, in- eluding Hamilton Tigers who last week announced withdrawal for "the duration," Brown said. The Big Four governors would also be present and t-he entire situation would be reviewed. and a. definite decision made whether o1- not ihe league will operate this fall.

The formal application made by Toronto Balmy Beach of the On- tario Rugby Football Union for membership in the Big Four will be officially considered, he said.

Well-known athletes 0n leave here

A number of well known soldier athletes from this Province have been enjoying a leave at their homes. Along with other comrades. some fifty in all. tliey reached the Province from Petgwawa Thursday and will leave on return this morn- ing. Boys with the group who were well known here in athletic circles prior to the war, include Weston "Bucko" Trainor, Vernon Larter, Bill Partridge and Art Hale from Charlottetown. Jim Hogan. Sum- merside and Bill MacAleer, Borden. Most of the boys mentioned have been playing baseball this summer and have been enjoying it greatly.
