New light has been thrown on‘ Lord Macaulays temperament and literary genius by the publication of his Private Journals. the manuscript of which has been presented to Trin- ity College, Cambridge. In these Journals he expresses himself with an abrupt sincerity which is quite rc- freshlng. His judgments on men and events are usually historically sound. as in the following comment which he made on reading the Life of John Jebb: "Not a man to my taste. I hate your busy, impracticable, uncomprom- ising reformers. They never do good: and they lead miserable lives. Free-trade England is today pon- dering over its declining industries and unemployment problem, and gradually but surely awaking to the cause. Sir W. Added to this often is some infec- tion from teeth or tonsils which in- flames the walls of the gall bladder and prevents it from emptying pru- perly.

So- common has the sluggish liver and gall bladder become that many individuals are now using a fine rub- ber tube which tlley put down the throat and it goes past stomach to beginning of small intestine. Ep- som salts ls poured down this and in a few minutes the individual lies down with head lower than body. and the Epsom salts with bile, is drained out.

However not eating lnuch when mentallv disturbed, cutting down on rich foods such as pork, wngue, goose, suck. pastry and alcohol. and giving the liver and gall bladder reg- ular soucezinrz by bending or deep breathing exercises, will prevent dis- turbances in the gall bladder.
