Registration of motor vehicles at the Provincial Secretary's office this sea- son up to May 2, shows the highly satisfactory ln- crease of 1264 over the same period last year.

Cars registered on May 2 this year number 3898 as against 2791 on May 2, 1933-an increase of 1107.

Former Member of Roosevelt Cabinet Succumbs to Throat Infection. '

Roosevelt led him to take the helm of the United States Ilrcasury in one of the nation's gravest crises, died tonight. The in- ustrlalist and composer, whose health had been frail in recent years, died in a hospital of the rav- ages of a throat infection. He would have been U6 years old late this month. For seven months, through the strain of the National Bank holiday and the unprecedented monetary ex- periments of the “new deal," Mr. Woodin held to his post until last November when he first obtained a leave of absence and finally, on Jan. 1, resigned as Secretary of the

Criticism-that Mr. Woodin was out of sympathy with what were popularly called "in- flationary policies" of the President and that the appearance of his name in the J. P. Not long before the end, dno of Mr. Woodirrs physicians related, he had talked affectionately of the President.

Mr. W00din's throat infection troubled him during the summer of 1933. He came to New York and for a. time virtually ran the treasury by telephone. . He went to Arizona, and. finally on Jan. l Mr. Roosevelt announced his resignation and the

Tourist Handicaps

There were two great handicaps to the tourist industry in this province. The first was the high ferrying charge. This year or next the tax would be lowered, as efforts would not be given up until the reduction was secure l. The Island press and the Maritime press were supporting the movement. Another handicap iwas the fact that 25 or 30 cars left the ferry at once, and trailed one another in tho dust. Give Up Hope For Fishermen

BAGDAD, Iraq, May 3.--The com- plctc collapse of Yemini forces in western Arabia during bitter tribal warfare with the highly-efficient army of Ibn Saud, ruler of Saudi Arabia. was reported tonight sim- ultaneously with rapid British, Ital- ian, and French steps to protect na- tionals in the area. Ibn Baud, the most powerful Arabian leader in this era, was said to have conquered the ancient kingdom of Yemen — bounded by the Red Sea, the desert, and British-controlled Aden-cap- tured Hodeidah, and sunk armed ships in Hodeidah harbor with his fighting planes, armored cars, and well-trained troops.

In Imam of Yemen, the ruler of his country was reported assassina- ted in a rebellion. The British Gov- ernment hastened to send warships to the war-stricken area to protect its nationals and interests, and Italy and France, sharing with Britain a grave view of this border dispute that developed into sharp warfare, considered similar action.
