The Autumn session of the P. E- I. Presbytery of The United Church Canada met in I-Iesrtz Hull, Charlottetown, on Tuesday, October 21st, at a. m. The Chairman Rev. J. R. Skinner, presided nnd constituted the Court with prilyrcr. He was assisted in the devotional period by Mrs. A. J. Matheson. Rev. J. A. Nicholson and Mr. W. E. ‘Brooks. He stressed the need for evangelism at the present time. together with communicant classes, and the encouragement of family devotions. Throughout our land recent war activities nod created certain problems. especial- ly the desecration of the sabbath. Gambling was becoming wide spread in a shameless defiance of the law. And the liquor business is found to be entrenched politically, economically and socially, and eon- tlnued efforts were being made to make that which was "morally wrong to be legally right."

Rev. R.‘ W. ‘Barker, convener oi the committee on Evangellsm and Social Service in the Presbytery, then presented the following resolu- tions. which, sfter considerable dis- cu ’ , were adopted by the court:-

The hazards of farm work are small, so that the cost of in- ellldlns this class of labor would be low, yet farm laborers and their families need the protection, just as do other workers.

Inasmuch as It has been pug/gag. ed that a great deal of unnecessary work is being carried on on sun. dny we would ask the P. E. I. and West Prince Ministerial Associa- tions to look into the matter and if necessary take action to prevent sum work being carried on.

We suggest that the members of Presbytery do all in their power to discourage lotteries and other forms of gambling on their respective charges.

We recommend that a vow of thanks be extended to Dr. John Coburn for his message.

Rev A. S. Weir presented the report of the Missionary and Main- tenance Fund. It was found that our own Presbytery and Conferen- ces were behind their glvihgs st the same period last year. but that the givin 5 throughout the church were in a viince. All cergregations were urged I0 keep informed of the mis- sionary enterprise and to be syste- matic in their glvirigs and organi- zation.

Revs. W. A. Paterson and W. '1‘. Mercer were heard in the interests of Religious Education. Special ref- erenco was made to Sunday School and Young People's work and the need for greater cooperation. Three candidates for the Christ- ian ministry were Certified to Mount Allison University for fur- ther study on the recommendation of the Commihe on Education and Students.

Rev. D. K. Ross reported for the Home Mission Committee. lt was learned with pleasure I151 the number of aid receiving charges in our Pnsbytcry had been reduced t0 three, and that these were receiving a total mission grant of $875.03 as compared with $8000. to several more charges st the beginning of Church Union. The Moderators Fund was referred to the local con- gregations for their liberal support.

The Pastoral Relations Commit- tee recommended to Presbytery that it concur in the request of Rev. E. B. B. Miller for a change in pas- toral relations at the end of June next, and that his name be fur- warded to the Settlement Commit- tee. Rev. Mr. Miller has been min- ister at St. Peter's Bay and at the present time 1s taking a post grad- uate course at Toronto Universiti- Mr W. G. The attention of the court was directed to the recom- mendations of the General Coun- cil and our own Conference in ref- erence to increased Subscriptions to our church papers.
