For almost twenty minutes last night the Charlottetown Islanders flirted with their first victory of the semi-final series against the Halifax Saints but the win flirted away in the third period as the saints came from behind to win 5-3.

After Ray Frederick had broken the heart of the Saiitaiiiariana in the first period by turning back 11 shots in the most spectacular goal- tending exhibition staged here this season the Islanders roared back in the middle stanza to hammer the Saints into apparent submis- sion and score three goals.

But the submission was only ap- parent for the Fieldmeii came back to rifle home five markers in the third session and again it was "Pistol Pete” Leswlck who scored the winning goal his second winner in the two games.

13-Minute Nightmare

The next 13 minutes were night- marish ones for the huge crowd of Charlottetown fans on hand. Be- fore they had ended Thompson. Ford. Campbell, Lcswick and Camp- bell again had sifted home the black biscuit.

By virtue of their win the Saints have taken a 2-0 lead in the semi- final series. Tonight the scene shifts to Halifax for the third game and a fourth game on Saturday.

There was drama. tension. hap- pines and lastly disappointment in the titantic struggle last night. The Saints started fast. and held play over the Islanders like a tent in the first period.

Dewey Thompson's goal and the third period penalty to Jim Mac- Kenzie gave the Saints a life. Mac- Kenzlels penalty was a very cheap one in view of what the Halifax forwards had been doing to Fred- erick. On two occasions we saw Billy Warwick holding down Ray Frederick and on two more Johnny Morrow had, Frederick pinned to the goal past while the Saints were on the attack.
