One of the points emphasised by Premier MacMillan in his address at the Conservative convention in Charlottetown on Wednesday was u» rm that failure u» obtain any subsidy increase from Ottawa by the Saunders-Lea Government wIsnotduaasMnleaandhl-a followers have alleged, to any lack 0i oo-operation from the Conserva- tive Premiers of the other Maritime Provinces, but simply and solely to lihe-“al neglect here and at Ottawa. The Liberal err-Premier of this r._...._.: reins-ed to lab-operate with Nova Sootia and New Brunswick in making a Joint presentation, and his individual efforts were treated with nothing but contempt by the Mackenzie King Government. This charge has been made at other nueetings by Premier MacMillan, and he has stated that he is pre- pared f0 furnish concrete evidence to this eflect before the election.

Opponents and supporters of Pre- mier MacMiilan are equrdly aware of his reputation for straight shooting, and oi the fact that he never makes charges that ‘he can- not prove. In this case his allega- tion is a serious one, for it means that through the neglect or bung- ling of Liberal politicians when in power, this Province has been de- prived of hundreds of thousands of dollars of revenue in the way of additional subsidy. It is obvious that a. subsidy settlement should have been easier to obtain in a period of boaswl prosperity than in a per- iod of depression, and it is also be- yond dispute that the MacMillan Government succeeded in obtaining a; increase of 8150.000 ann under the Bennett administrati at Ottawa, where the Saunders-Lea Government failed mpletely unitr the Mackenzie King regime.

Readers will be interested tn learn, from a London dispatch to the Montreal Gazette, that Law- rence of Arabia's own full story of the Arab revolt, "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom," o: which only a little over 100 copies were privately printed, many bringing fabulous prices when marketed, will short- ly be available to the public in a. regular edition.

The Colonel's brother and liter- ary executor announced with the concurrence of‘ the trustees of ‘ine- volt in the Desert," that no further copies or that book will be issued, but in ,, cement with his co-ex- ecutor he has authorized Law- rence's publisher, Jonathan Cape. to proceed with immediate publica- tion of "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom," of which “Revolt in the Dese " is an abridgement.

Mr. Cape stated that he was pub- lishing "The Seven Pillars oi Wis- dom" in mid-July unabridged at the same price as “Revolt in the Desert," namely 30 shillings. Mr. Cape added that negotiations were under way with Lawrence's Ameri- asl publishers, Doubleday, Doran, for their publication oi "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom," contingent up- on their willingness to withdraw "Revolt in the Desert," to which he felt certain they would agree.

"The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" has had a strange history. Law- rence wrote an account oi his Arabian experiences in i919. The hand bag containing the manuscript was leit unguarded for a moment at Reading Station and disappear- ed, probably bein; stolen, although no use oi the bug's contents was aver traced. In 1092 Lawrence com- pleted a re-drait of the book and induced the newspaper press at Oxford to set up a few copies. lie w" m . . . _ u. m abridged form when revelation oi his hiding place after leaving the Oolonisl Office caused him to con- sign the manuscript to Bodleian Library, Oxford. and seek another retreat.
