CA ALOGUE OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATTON—MATERTAE§__TT-The

Natural History Society has recently received a copy of the Catalogue of Environmental Materials from the Information Directorate in Ottawa. The catalogue is an effort to list_in one place all of the thousands o; pub- lications issued in the last decade by the federal, provincial, and territorial governments in the area of environmental protection and resource conservation. Designed mainly for use by environmental educators, the society's copy may

be obtained by contacting Winnie Cairns.

FIELD TRIP REPORT No doubt about it, Saturday of the Thanks- giving weekend was a super day for the N.H.S. outing to Moore's Bird Sanctuary, Milltown Cross.

By ll:30 a total of 10 members had gathered to have a picnic lunch before setting out for a leisurely walk around the pond.

During our walk, we observed scores of Canada geese and many species

of mushrooms which were scrutinized and discussed. We also sighted

a bird which at first galance ap- peared to be a cowbird, but on another look, the bill was not quite right. It did not linger long enough to allow the problem to be solved.

The dark firs and spruces with an occasional maple or birch adding

a touch of brilliance form the

back drop for our walk.

After the walk, the small group dispersed-- some to pick apples, call on friends, or meander along highways and byways as they made their way home.

CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT The dates for the P.E.I. National Park and Hillsborough counts,which make up the annual Christmas Bird Count, will be decided at the November meeting. Anyone interested in participating or anyone willing to host an after-count pot-luck supper and gathering should contact the compilier Winnie Cairns.
