Hap His Revesce.—A novel revenge for his discharge was recently taken by an eleyator boy in a big furniture store in Portland, Me. When everyone else had left the store he changed the price tags on all the firniture in the place, marking some things down in a startling way, putting high prices on common stock, and hope- lessly mixing up things generally.

LITERARY NOTES,

One of the leading features in Harper’s Magazine, at the close of this year and the beginning of the next, will be a novel by William Black. The title of the story, Briseis, is taken from its heroine, a Greek maiden who is first introduced to the read- er among the hi.lg of Aberdeenshire. It i¢ atale which has long occupied. the thought of the novelist, and into which he has put some of his best work. The Bedouins May Escape,

Jeppan, Oct. 27.—The envoys who were sent to capture the Bedeuins who in May last killed the British firat consul here, and wounded the British consul, the Russian consul and the French consular secretary whilé'they were walking in the suburbs of the town, have returned with some sheiks from the interior. The sheiks declare the tribe to which the assailants of the consular officers belong will only yield them to @ superior force. The gen- eral opinion is the attack will remain un- avenged.

Warsaw, Oct. 26.—Lublin, capital of the government of that name in Russian Poland, was visited by a hurricane a few days ago, causing loss to life and great damage to property. Religious services

were being held in the cathedral. The”

iron-covered roof of the edifice, which was filled with worshippers, was torn away and fell into the interior of theechurch, killing several persons outright and injuring a large number. The panic-stricken congre- gation, thrieking with terror, made a rush for the doors, and many men, women and children were thrown down and trampled upon or crushed to death.
