The deceased during almost his Itire life was associated with bands and was a first class per- forlmer. At an early age he first joined Galbraith! Band, under the leadership of the late Robert Gal- braith. Sonia years later. with his three brothers, Worths Band was organized with the late Lemuel Worth, as leader. He later became a member of the 4th Regiment Band with which organization he remained for a number of years.

A. D. 3B5 to 423 some 600 women were em- ployed in hospitals in Alexandria. He then traced the history of nurs- ing in England and Paris from the middle ages, and showed how nurs- ing owed a great deal to Florence Nightingale, who performed such remarkable work during the Crim- ean war. Ha then traced the rela- tion of the nurse to the patient. and her close relation to the doctor, and the patients spiritual adviser. He ended up by saying: "Yours then is the high ideal of service and sacrifice-service, for who can better employ her time than the nurse in soothing the fev- cred brow? and sacrifice, because monetary remuneration can never repay the loving care. the sleepless nights, and the discomforts of the devoted nurse. You have up to the present had divided responsibility. You have had heretofore been more or less protected by the constant at- tendance of hospital doctors and by the advice of a matron, and experi- enced nurses. In the iuture you will be thrown to a great extent on your own resources and on your own Judgment and on the proper exercise of them will depend the physical welfare of your patient. The close of another training school year has come, and another class of graduates, the goal of their desires attained, stand on the thres- hold of their Alma Mater to receive her parting admonitions. '

How anxiously we looked forward to our graduation day, and how dis- tant from it seemed the beginning of each successive year! Now after three years of strenuous effort, in which there have been alternating moments o! hope and fear. we wish to stay the hand of time in order to prolong this never-to-be-forgotten epoch in our youth.

Here the difficulties of our train- ing days seemed always to be ren- dered less difficult, the rough places made smooth by the kindness of vigilant teachers and guides, the en- couragement and sympathy of the medical staff, the fatherly concern of the clergy, and the helpful kind- ncss of our fellow workers. We sin- cerely appreciate the unselfish ef- forts these have made, for our intel- lectual physical and moral welfare. Their untiring zeal on our behalf. has been an incentive to mater. striving on cur part and will serve as an inspiration, when absent from our beloved associates, we are con- fronted with the perplexing prob- lems incidental to a nurse's life. Sweet are the ties that bind us to our training school and to the happy friendships formed within its pre- cincts.
