Annual Displaying Of Sewing

The pupils of Grade 1-Vlll. St. lMary'a Convent. Souris. held their annual sewing dl5Pl8y last week. From the fine and varied exhibits. lVisll0I'S readily concluded the lllalily of work being done by the unior pupils of the Convent.

The work of the 4-H Sewinz Club at Grades Vll-Vlll was judged on )-triday by Miss McLeod. Miss Vtooincr and Miss I):-sitot-hes from he Women's institute Office in

Charlottetown. Requirements for 4 - All Sewing Club work include: First year.

patch. buttonliole, knitted square, seams. tcatowel, embroidered sam- ples. Second year. knitted scarf, -m-nding. applique. matched and skirt. Third year. ltcmstitclilng. linund buttonhole. mitts. darning. crocheted dolly and blouse. Fourth

year, socks. book of sample stit- ches and a dress.

The pupils of Grades V and Vi had on display as their class sew- ing. aprons. pot holders. beanies and bureau scarves.

Those who completed their work successfully further developed their talent by making a drindle skirt for themselves.

The linen tealowels and embroi- dered end table covers made by the pupils of Grades ill and 1V looked very attractive. A section of Grade lll embroidered fancy dollies.

The girls of Grades 1 and ll dis- played their doll aprons. while the boys of Grade 1 had a fine show- ing of wooden toys made from plywood.

Souris West Has Convention

The Annual Dislrlt:l Convention of Number 2 District Northern Wu- men's institute was held in Sou- ris Parish Hall on the afternoon of June 6th. Tcn various institutes were presented by eighty - one members.

The president. Mrs. Bert Mulla- lly acting as chairman opened the meeting with a few remarks, fol- lowed by the singing of the Ode. The secretary. Ann Deagle. read the minutes of the last convention.

An address oi welcome was ten- dered the visiting delegates by Mrs. Andy Boucliard of Souris West to which Miss Anne Keays graciously replied.

A very interesting report of the

past year's work was read by each Institute Branch Secretary.l A few high lights of the after-I noon were piano selections by Miss Marilyn Peters and Master Thom- as White. Miss Joan Neale did the Highland Fling and Sword Dance.

The guest speaker Mrs. .i. As Lawson. representing the Chal-'l lottetown Branch of the Canadian iAssociation oi Consumers gave a very interesting and educative talk, on fabrics. Mrs. Stewart Mac-I Gregor. a member of the provin- cial executive addressed the group.

The resolutions were then read by the convener, Mrs. Adolphus Conway of Rollo Bay East. Missl Bingham from the Women's in- stitute Department spoke briefly on Institute work.
