Tse rear doors of the Post Office should be kept open until the time for closing the office. At present the Keeper closes those doors at sunset,greatly to the inconvenience of the residents north of Great George and Richmond Streets. We call the atten- tion of the Post Office Inspector to this mat- ter —Com.

Wepnespay last was, we are informed, the largest ‘‘day’s travel” of the season on the Island steamers. On that day over thirty-five passengers crossed in the steamer from Point du Chene to Summerside. They were mostly Islanders returning to visit their friends.

A boy named Francis Began appeared before Theoph. DesBrisay and Alexander Hayden, Esqs., J. P.’s, for assaulting Mr. Joseph Warren at Upton Park on Wednesday last. He confessdd to the assault and was committed to jail for two months with hard labor.

Tue premises of John R. Hooper, Esq., Rustico Road, was visited one night this week, and the clothes line robbed. Some persons coming to town to-day found a bag and a coat in the bush near the roadside— the contents of the bag turns out to be the clothes taken from Mr. Hooper. The coat may lead to the capture of the thief, as in the pocket was found a memoradum of an agreement with Mr. Hall, to serve as fisher- Man.

Ix St. John at half-past 7 o’clock this morning William Vaughan, who murdered Mrs. Mary Quinn at Little River, N. B., on the 13th of February last, expiated his terrible crime on the gallows. The execu- tion took place over the stair landing in rear of the entrance at the eastern end oi the jail. There were present a very small number :—the jury, the medical judges, his Spiritual advisers and a representative Of each of the daily papers. A large number Witnessed the execution from the roofs of the adjoining buildings. He was fully penitent up tothe time of his death, and had a realizing sense of the terrible position in which he stood.

Lonpon, June 21. The ‘* Times” publishes the following special from Berlin of Friday, at midnight : _ The Plenipotentaries of England, Rus- sia and Austria this evening agreed to the following points, which will be submitted to Congress to-morrow for ratification :-

The frontier of the Northern Bulgaria is to be fixed at the Balkans.

The Turks are to have the right to fortify | the Balkan Passes and to garrison the forti- tied places.

Sofia is to be included with Roumalia and Varna in Bulgaria.

The Turks are to retain Burgos on the northern frontier of Montenegro, and the boundaries of Servia are to be restricted, those countries to receive compensation on the south.

A telegram from Constantinople con- strained the Russians to thus settle the questions, at the same time the solution is equally due to the personal intervention of Prince Bismarck.”

The Post states, in official form, that it is probable the Czar will come to Berlin to see Kmpero: William, whose health causes much anxiety, and also to give the necessary assent to any measures which may be ap- proved by the Russian Plenipotentiaries, as constant reference to St. Petersburg is ex-} tremely inconvenient, and Prince Gortscha koff is not as strong as he used to be neither bodily or mentally,

Visir or THE Apostotic DELEGATE. — His Excellency, Bishop Conroy, of Ardagh, Apostolic Delegate to Canada, arrived in Chatham on Wednesday afternoon about 4 o'clock. The purpose of his visit was to perform the consecration ceremonies con- nected with the laying of the corner stone of the new Cathedral at Chatham. He came to Newcastle by the express train of Tuesday night, accompanied by Rev. Father Ryan as secretary, and Rey. Father Bannon of Chatham, who had been sent by His Lordship Bishop Rogers, of Chatham, to meet the distinguished prelate. His Ex- cellency was the guest of the Rev. Father Dixon, of Newcastle, for the night. The Bishop of Chatham and a large party, in- cluding Bishop McIntyre of P. E. Island, and Bishop Cameron of Arichat, went to Neweastle from Chatham, and met the Delegate, and then came back to the last named place with him. He proceeded to the chapel of the Hotel Dieu and received an address from the pupils of the Sisters there. Then there was a luncheon given by Bishop Rogers. Bishop Sweeney, of St. John, went on to take part in the ceremony, which was to have occurred yesterday after- noon. — Tel.

Tue bathing season is now commenced, | and large numbers of the youthful indulge in the refreshing exercise from the wharves. At noon to-day Officer Cameron fell upon a number of gamins who were swimming off Steam Navigation Wharf. He laid plans for their arrest, but they escaped, without their clothing, to Peake’s No. 3 W harf. For half an hour he followed them, in their nakedness, from wharf to wharf. Failing to make an arrest, he took their clothes, carried them to the police station, and left

poor urchins standing naked on the Wharf under the beams of a scorching sun. Presently, Officer McKinnon returned with the clothing, left them in a forge, and went in search of their owners. He had scarcely
