MR. MUBDOCK G. ANDERSON An esteemed citizen of Char- lottetown passed away Thursday morning in the person. of Mr. Murdock G. Anderson. age 82. He was a man cf splendid character, honorable and upright, and always endeavoured to keep true to the fine traditions of his Scottish an- cestors. He was a valued member oi the United Church of this city. The late Mr. Anderson was born at Newton, Belfast, and was the son oithe late Mr. and Mrs. Alex- ander Anderson.

His father had been engaged in farming and milling for many years and on his death in i873 two oi his sons. Murdock and Alexand- er, took over the property. com- bining farming with milling. In 1918 they dissolved partnership. Alexander took over part of the land and devoted all his attention to farming, whilst Murdock con- tinued both milling and farming. About 12 years ago Mr. Murdock Anderson disposed of his farming and milling interests at Newtown and removed to Southport. He then came to Charlottetown. where he has been residing up to his death. He was thrice married, first to iss Margaret Murchison oi Point

A panel discussion of the nature. purpose, history and possibilities of credit unions, and their. difference from social credit plans, was held last evening at the public meeting of the Holy Redeemer Parish As- sociated Study Clubs.

'I‘he clubs are conducted by the. Holy Name Society. under the su- pervision of Prof. J. Crotcau, Pro- fessor of Sociology and Economics at St. Dunstarrs University and Prince of Wales College.

At last night's meeting, which was open to the public, representa- tivea of provincial and civic gov- ernments, as weii as educational leaders and many others interested in adult education, were present.

After the minutes had been read an address of welcome to the visit- ors, stating the purpose of the meeting, was read by Mr. P. J. Rose alter, President of the Holy Name Society, and Chairman of the as- sociated study clubs.

Lecture By ' Evangelist Johnson

“The death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross was not the be- ginning but only the climax of the- sacrifice that was made for the hu- man race." said Evangelist, r‘, w. Johnston in his lecture “ r _, night at the Brighton Club Rooms. The sacrifice began when he, who was the divine Son of God, con- sented to coma into human flesh and was born as a babe in Bethle- hem of Judea. Thus his earthly sacrifice covered the entire period oi his earthly human existence.

Nor did he take human nature as it was before Adam sinned, nor as it was immediately after Adam sinned, said Mr. Johnson. Rather did he take human nature as it was after four thousand years or gin when human nature had fallen to its iowestj l-ie said that if Christ had taken sinless human nature he would not have reached sinful man at all and could never have been the Saviour of sinful man. Nor could he have been tempted in ail DOInts as we are if he had taken sinless flesh. He read in Hebrews 2:17 that Christ mas made in all things like unto his brethren, so that as Mr. Johnston said, if Christ was born in siniess flesh it would prove that his brethren were born in sinless flesh as well. But since ills brethren were born in sinful flesh therefore, Christ was born 1n sinful flesh also.

But as Mr. Johnston said he did not want to be misunderstood; for While Christ was born in sinful flesh he never committed sin, and retained the same innocency as'a Child. lie himself did n9 gin 50 11g read from l Peter 2:22. There was a large congregation in St. Peter's Cathedral yesterday morning for the 11 o'clock sung celebration of the Holy Eucharist, when the Rev. Canon Malone was cciebl-ant. The Rev. Canon Banks was the preacher and chose as his text the words "But grow in grace. and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." At the close of the service the congrega- tion asscmbled in the Cathedral Hall to wefcoma Canon Banks of Toronto, who has arrived to take Canon Maioneh place for three months while the latter is 0n a visit to the Wwt Indies. Mr. J. O. Hyndman on. behalf of the Trustees, Congregation and Choir then pre- sented Canon Malone with a purse rontaining a substantial sum of money, and the best wishes of all for a pleasant voyage and visit.

All were pleased to See Mrs. Rob- inson in her accustomed scat at this service, after having the previous day celebrated her ninety-fifth birthday.

At Evensong Canon Malone took as his text the words "Alleluia, Al- leluia", from the first verse of the 19th Chapter of Revelations. At the close of the sermon the Canon asked God's blessings on all during his absence, and asked that he be remembered on the 26th of Febru- ary, when he will hnve been a Priest of the Church of God for thirty years. Speaking to large congregations in St. James Presbyterian Church yesterday, the minister, Rev. R. Moor-head Legato, D.D., delivered timely sermons in his usual con- vincing manner. Taking as his text for the morning diet of worship “Blessed are they that seek God with the whole heart," from Psalm CXLX, 2, Dr. Legato said that this might be put forth in a modem form, “The blessings Di religion are attained by those who take religion seriously," and he pointed out that our religion ought to be of such vital importance to each of us, that we should consider it the reality of our life. The sermon provided a great deal of food for thought and would be difficult to summarize in limited space. Miss Dorothy Wyatt of Summerside sang as a solo, "Tile Lord is My Shepherd," by Liddic. and the anthem, "May Jesus Christ Be Praised," by Bamby was sung by the choir.

The Sabbath School and classes were held us usual in the afternoon with the exception of the Young Men's Discussion Group, which foi- lowed a literal-y reading by Ml-. James Burnett, the subject for dis- cussion as arranged for yesterday's class being deferred until next Sunday.
