On May the sixth the Second Charlottetown Pack of Brownies had a very exciting meeting. Mrs. K. M. Martin, Brown Owl of the Third Charlottetown Pack at- tonded the meeting and was kept very busy. She enrolled Matilda Compton as a member of the pack and presented the Golden Hand Badge to Ann Duffy. The Pack is sorry to lose Ann who has joined the Second Charlotte- town Company of Guides. Golden Bar Badges were presented to Barbara Nash, Elizabeth Prowse, Betty Beer. Florine Evans, Mar- jorie Spillett, Shirley Stems and Margaret Macfiennan, also Mrs. Martin passed the above seven on quite a few of their Golden Hand Tests. The Pack are very

Dr. R. J, Ledwell, 63, well-known Prince Edward Island physician and surgeon and the first doctor 1n the Maritime Provinces to per- form a Cnesarian operation, died in the Charlottetown Hospital early yesterday after a short ill- ness. Known as a kindly physician and clever surgeon, Dr. Ledwell enjoyed adarge circle of friends.

A pleasing wnversationalist and well posted on current events Dr. Iiedwell was always a welcome gilest at social ggtherings. He occupied a seat, at e city council board for one term. -

He was a great lover of horses and before the advent of the auto- mobile here, always kept the best horses obtainable in hs stables.

Born in Charlottetown in 1875. son of Mrs. Catherine Ledwell and the late Captain J. H. Ledwell, he

. Dunstams University and Prince of Wales College. He entered Tufts College, Boston, for the study of medicine and graci- uoted from this institution in 1901 when he entered the Boston

City Hospital. Later he entered the Boston Emergency Hospital, before re-

turning to Cilarlottetown where he practiced for 33 years. For the past 30 years he had been a member of the staff of the Char- lottetown Hospital.

Besides his widow, he ls survivor; by one son, John S. Ledwell, M. D.,, . M., 0f Charlottetown and his mother, Mrs. Catherine Led- well, at present ill in hospital here.

The funeral will be held ‘Thurs- day mornin at 9.45 to St. Dun- stan's Basil ca. Interment will be in the Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Union Commercial College Closing

The Union Conanemial College closed for the term on Tuesday, May 8i. Principal W, Moran pre- sided arxi presented the diplomas, certificates and prizes won during the term.

The results in the shorthand and tyrpewritirur department were very satisfactory. due in a great meas- ure to the excellent training given by Mrs McLellan, the shorthand instructor.

In the typewriting department, the students used the touch meth- od and the results were most sat-

The results in the different de- partments could not have been achieved without the order that was maintained in the class rooms. The necessity of punctuality was stressed, as without it students could not make a success when they went into the business world.

Following the sale of candy a group of Boy Scouts under the di- rection of Mr. J. B. Richards pre- sented a‘ one-act olav which was well received.

An interesting and pleasing feat- ure was the camp fire scene when several of the scouts out on special numbers while the whole troop took part in group singing.
