To those of you who read this column regularly (if there are any) you may have noticed I review very little fiction. However once in a while I come across an extra- ordinary book and-this is where the Leo Rosten’s work' 0 KaplaniMy Kaplan fits in.

The book is a collection\ of stories focusing on the hilarious misadventures of one Hyman Kaplan,a student in a beginner English class for immigrants.Rosten' creates a character effer—' Vescent with'life and vit— ality,an indomitable spirit, a cheerful smile and the ability to massacre the English language as only Hyman Kaplan could.Beseiged by his mentors he uses his Own personal logic to over- Come all obstacles in his Path in reforming the English language." ‘

Big Beat continues the Spark's traditionfof serving up basic rock n' roll in a distinctive style. The best rockers on the album are "Fill 'er Up?, "Big Boy", and “Nothing To Do". The bmdakocm$hmsa little humour with their music on songs such as "I bought The Mississippi River" and "Throw Her Away" (And Get A New One). as they are pointless

This is already a very successful album Sales—wise and there is only one reason why it is. It skillfully ’combines space, rock, and jazz music into one solid package of good listening.
