Dell gently thou, whose hand hath won The young bird from the nest away,
Where careless, 'nenth a vernal sun, She gain caroll‘d day by day.

Deal gently with her—thou art dear Beyond what vestal lips have told. Anal like a lamb. front fountains clear, She turns, confiding, to thy fold.
She round thy slweet, domestic bower
The wreaths of changeless love shall twine, Watch for thy step at vesper hour,
And blend her holiest prayer with thine.

’Mid stranger scenes her foot shall rove ,- Nor let thy tender cares decay :
The soul of woman lives in love.

Tue Last on 'nts: STUARTs.—Tlll8 tnost Wonderful character still lives at 'l‘weedtnouth. A Scotch paper says : he completed his ll5th year on Christmas, 1813. His father. General John Stuart, was a cousin of ‘ Prince Charles,’ the l’retenrler. His grandtnother was the lady of Airlie, well known in old Scotch song—James Stuart saw those memor- able battles during the rebellion of I745, Preston-pans and Culloden, and has spok- en to and had wine with the Pretender.
He served on the side of the royalists in the Americi'b war, and was at the bat- tle of Quebec, where General Wolfe lost his. live at the moment of victory. He served on board ofa tnan-of-war forma- ny years under those naval heroes, Ad- miral Rodney and Rear Admiral llood. He has been five titties married, and now lives with his fifth wife, 75 years younger than himself. He has had by his several wives 27 children, ten of them have been killed in battle—live of them in India, two at Trafalgar under Nelson, one at Waterloo, and two at Algiers.
For nearly 60 years he has travelled in the Border districts as a wandering minstrel, playing on a fiddle, but he never asked altns from any one—Hundreds of persons can bear testimony to his amaz- ing strength, from which circumstance he got the bye-name of “ Jammy Strength.” Among other feats he could carry a 24 pounder cannon. and has been known to lifts cart load of hay weighing a ton and a half, upon his back. Many a time he has taken up a jackass and walk- ed through the toll bar, carrying it on his shoulders. It will be long before we can look a n his like again, to hear his sto- ries o 1145, and his lowiu descriptions of the young Chev isr.-— catch mar.
