Dr. McSwain, of Belfast.

Dr. MacSwain, formerly of Belfast, P. E. L., says the British Columbian, of New Westminster, is so delighted with the cli- mate of British Columbia that he has de- cided to remain, and will become a permanent resident of New Westminster. He has entered into partnership with Dr. MacLeod. Dr. MacSwain has been prac- ticing in the East for the last 11 years, but was compelled to relinquish his practice in consequence of the severity of the eastern winters. After graduating at Harvard the doctor went to Edinburgh, and afterwards to London, where he took the degree of the Royal College of Physicians; and we believe he is the only person in this prov- ince who helds that valuable diploma. While in London he studied at St. Thomas Hospital, where he had the advantage of a course in eye and ear diseases under the celebrated Ne He also took a course in the Samaritan Hospital for dis- eases of women. The medical training of Drs. MacLeod & MeSwain should com- mend them tv public confidence,

Sir,—After an absence of some months from your good city, I had the pleasure of being present on Sunday evening last in the Methodist Church, when I enjoyed a treat seldom afforded in these Lower Pro- vinces to lovers of song, The choir of that church may well be styled the ‘‘crack choir’ of P. E. Island, as I have not heard anything equal to their performance for many years.

The distinct articulation and correct time, together with the fine effect produced when the crescendos and diminuendos were rendered, was thrilling. The director, Prof. Friese, has spared no pains to place hish coir at the head in your town. I must state that during the last few mdnths a marked improvement has taken place, not only in the above choir, but that of Zion and the other churches. It is a great pleasure to have the opportunity of listen- ing to such music as is now produced in Charlottetown since Mr. Friese has come among you. He should be encouraged and appreciated in his efforts to improve the ‘*heavenly art.”

Here we have an ‘‘exhaustless supply, and as for quality ‘‘there isno better water on earth” than in this city. Then what, Mr. Newspaper Man, is all the fuss and nonsense about? That the above is true there can be no doubt. Councillor Tanion stated it boldly on Friday evening last, when the citizens met to consider the ‘‘water question; and more, when he made the statement, it was evident from the applause which followed, that a large majority of the citizens endorsed it. Then let’s have no more nonsense about ‘‘a short supply” of ‘‘bad water.” Give us the next subject. Who is to be our next Governor !

pendiary Magistrate for the said City of Charlottetown has, by virtue of the power |and authority in him vested by the Statate of the General Assembly of the said Island, intituled “An Act to further amend of ‘An Act to incorporate the City of Charlottetown, and of the Statrte 43rd Victoria, Chapter Thirteen, in amendment thereof.’ ’ ordered and appointed that Friday, the 27th day of Jane, A. D. 1884, be the day set down for hearing all appeals made to him fiom the jJast preceding valuations, freessments or rates imposed or authorized by the City | Council of the eaid city, and that on such | day end daily thercaiter, until all such ap- | peals have been heard, at the hour of eleven o’cjock, jorenoon, in the said City Court, in Charlottetown, aforesaid, all such appeals will be heard and finally determined by him. Dated this 28th dey of May, 1884.
