The Government again met with a de- feat yesterday in Jacques Cartier, Des- carries, the Conservative candidate hav- ing been left in the minority of 574. The following are the majorities in each dis- trict : Poist Clair, Charbonneau 283; Dor- val, Charbonneau; 30; Lachine, Charbon - nean, I10; St. Laurent, Decarries, 73; St. Anne, Charbonneau, 96; St. Genevieve, Charbonneau, 115; Isle Bizard, Charbon- neau, 13. Toral, Decarries, 73; Charbon- neau, 647. Total majerity for Napoleon Charbonneau (Grit candidate) 574. The only explanation that can be given is that DesCarries was altogether too late in the field, By the change in Lachine, from a majority of almost 200 for Girouard, to 110 for the Liberal candidate, it would appear that the English vote has gone against the Ministry.
