The weather was not the most propitious as it threatened rain up until the time the races started then the sky cleared and it was a rather good afternoon except a little cool. However. that did not prevent the people from enjoying themselves and the big card was witnessed with the greatest interest, over a. thousand people remaining until nearly seven o'clock when the final heat of the 2.27 Trot and Pace was raced. A total of 33 horas answered the ball, three classes having seven starters in each and one with twelve had to be divided and run off in elim. lnation heats. _ '

In one of the best singles matches seen at the courts yester- day Joe O'Hara, of Ottawa, and W. This match was easily one of the best of the tournament to ldate with both players hitting hard ,and taking plenty of chances.

Upsets, smashllllfi- and many near accidents, with a. bit of comedy thrown in. The racing was real 800d. every heat being hard fought and no horse with the pos- sible exception of Signal Senator having much margin over the others. The track was fast and the dust nuisance was not in evi- dence. '

2.12 TROT AND PACE

This was the first called, SL31- G. took the lead the first heat and kept it to the finish. King Spruce making a good bid on the home- streatch and finishing at his wheel, I'm Alone third, Katherine C. 4th. Heatherbali finished fourth but was set back for mak- ing a winning break. Betty S. got 2W8)’ badly, made a break and in the 0111111011 _0f quite a number of people caught the banner, but the distance judge said not so, and his word must be taken.

In the second heat Betty S. came back in fine style with Tyn. dill Sample xplacing Driver Hasty ‘rho was slightly injured. She trailed Star G. until the last hundred yards then came through winning by half a. length. King Blirllce W85 a. very close third and Heatherbell fourth.

The third heat, Heather-bell got away to a. flying start and grab- bed the pole at the first turn. He held on gamely to the home stretch when he was passed by Betty and Star G., I'm Alone fourth. Morning Express who got away Very blidly and made breaks, fifth. Katherine C. took a tum-big on the back stretch, Driver Rock. ‘ford was thrown and considerably shaken up; the mare was not in. lured.

There were seven starters in this race nearly all of them trottey; and it was most interesting to watch. Calumet Bee, H. M, Sweeney's reepnt import. looked like a sure winner the first heat when he K011117911 home in front of Hefen D. with Peter Greatworthy third. and Bonnie Cameron 4th. Lusty Frisco the favorite, took sixth. The mile was i__ 2,12 which equals the track trotting record made last year by nan]; ,1, Q1. tolan.

In the second heat Calumet Bee looked as though he was going to repeat his win, but when chal- lenged by Lusty Frisco went to a break which set him back so far he only finished fifth. The fight for the heat was between Lusty and Bonnie Cameron, Lusty win- ninil by half a length, Cummings butting up a real good finish drive. Mr. Squires was a bangup tltlrd, Peter Greatworthy fourth. Helen D. made two breaks and appeared to be inlerefred with which caused one.

The third heat Mac Volo was drawn. This time it was Fireglow who carried the fight right to Signal Senator, being only beaten a neck. Foxey Pete pacing real well finished almost On even terms with Firegiow and Trixie V010 was a very close fourth. Winnie Winkle who secured to be in difficulties through other horses getting in the way, was fifth. This was a good race all through.

2.27 TROT AND PACE

This class had 12 horses paid up and ready for the word, so ac- cording to the rules it had to be raced in elimination heats, six horses in each heat. Bud Cope, Peggy Longset, Harvey Aubrey, Alset, Balbo and Lacopia Lass were in the first heat. They got away on the first score, Bud Cope at the pole having the lead which he maintained to the finish. Peggy L-ongset made a bid through the stretch but could not quite get up, Harvey Aubrey a. close third, Alset fourth. These four qualified for the final heats. The second qualifying heat had as starters Roy Volo, Jr.. Bob Oh Boy, Real Great, Belle Aubrey, Billy Witt and Leona. Roy Volo, Jr, was on his bad behaviour re- minding one of his sire Roy Volo, 2.00. He spoiled so many scores that the others commenced to cut up and one of the drivers collid- ed with Tom Holmes‘ steed and Tom got pretty made. This amus- ed the crowd and caused quite a laugh.

However, when they did get squared away Roy Volo Jr. show- ed thot he could pace by takin! them into camp quite easily. 30b Oh Boy second, Real Great third, Belle Aubrey fourth.

The winners of the two qualify- ing heats raced two more heats. It was a duel between the Callbeck brothers, Frank with Peggy Long- s t and George with Bud Cope, up until the last fifty yards when Frank drew away with Peggy and Bob Oh Boy coming fast on the outside of Bud Cope beat. him for second place. A dandy heat. Real Great was fourth.

The three heat winners came out for the final heat and Peggy again won, Bud Cope second. Roy Volo Jr. third.

Young City Hurler Comes Within Ace Of No-hit N0-run Game In Hurling 8-0 Shutout.

Playing the smarter ball both at bat and afield the Industrial League All-Stars last night batted out an 8-0 victory over the visit- ing Summerslde Cubs in an ex- hlbition game played on the Vic- toria. Park diamond.

The game provided plenty action

for the large crowd of fans who witnessed the game. Both teams played heads-up ball and errors

were few and far between.

The winners went into an early lead as they combined two hits, an error and a. passed batter in the first inning to count two runs. For the next three frames scoring was nil but in the All-Stars half of the fifth they put the game on ice. Three walks in a row and a like number of hits gave them six runs and catapulted them into an 8-0 lead. It was the end of the scoring as neither team threatened to any extent in the remaining innings.

Emerging from the encounter in the hero's role was young Wilt Stewart, the All-Stars hurler. The youngster came within a hair's breadth of entering baseball's "Hall of Fame" as he granted but one solitary hit all evening and pitched to but 30 batters in the eight innings the game lasted. The hit came in the second inning when Hogan, the Summerside catcher, singled to start the frame In the third an opponent got on through an error but after this not a visiting player reached first base. Stewart striking out nine batters out of fifteen to face him.

Gay, the Summerside hurler. was nicked for nine hits but out- side of the first and fifth pitched a. brilliant brand of ball.
