.-Dr. I. Bandler accompanied by Mrs. Bandler and their son. Dr- Martin Bendler, left Alberton by car Sunday morning to spend some months with relatives in New York, oallfcrnls and Buenos Aires. To the deep regret of their many friends Dr. and Mrs. Bendler do not expect to again take up per- manent residence in Alberton.

Victims of the tragedy of World War II. the Bandler family found refuge in Canada. Almost thirteen your; age they came to Alberton which was without a doctor at that time. and here Dr. Bandler earn- ed the esteem of the entire area by his professional skill and kind- ly manner. He received his Canad- ian citizenship certificate at the first public ceremony of naturaliza- tion to be held in Prince County under the new citizienship Act. Mrs. handler has also endeared herself to the community.

-A disastrous fire occurred last waning at 5.30 pm. at summer- side, West. when the plggery owned by Mr. Clovis Perry. housing about for pigs was completely destroyed along with 76 of the pigs.

Origin of the fire is uncertain but it is believed that it might have been caused by I mark from the stove used to heat the feed boiler. stored in the piggery was an estimated 5 tons of straw which was Ilso lost and which fed the flames making it impossible to do anything to control the fire.

..'Murray River voted in favor oi incorporation under the Village Services Act in an election held Saturday by Mr. Edwin Reid, Rollo Bay, sheriff and returning officer.

The final count stood at 103 in favor and 36 against. This is the second election held in Murray Riv- er, the first resulting in a majority vote against incorporation.

Villages at present incorporated in King's include: St. Peters, Mor- ell, Cardigan, Murray River and Murray Harbour.

'The town of Montague will make official application to Feder- al authorities for the purchase of the old post office building, it was decided at the regular meeting oi the Town Council held last night. Mayor B. H. Yeo presided over the meeting at which Councillors Rey- nolds, Hessian, Nicholson. McGow- an and Greene were in attendance.

The council was informed that the old building had been turned over to the Crown Assets Corpor- Minn for disposal, and a formal ap- plication to purchase must be tend- ered. This is to be done immediate- ly.

-Dr. Hellmich, recently of Bor- den, began the practice of his profession in Alberton yesterday succeeding Dr. Bandler who left here on Sunday after I residence of thirteen years.

Dr. Hellmich was educated in his native, Poland and with his family experienced the hardships of World War II. Before coming to Canada in 1949 he practised medicine in England for three years. For the past five years he has served the Borden area. Dr and Mrs. Hellmich have two small children, Christina and Mark. Mrs. Hr-llmich's mother also makes her home with them.

Plans have been finalized for the official inauguration of Centennial Year in Charlottetown.

On New Years eve a dance will be held at the Charlottetown Hotel as well as at the Queen Charlotte High School where Phiat group! of the Y.M.C.A. are sponsoring an entertainment for the younger set. At midnight a Town Crier in period costume will read to the dance patrons the official proclamation from the Mayor and City Council declaring Centennial Year opened. Centennial novelties wllif be in evidence at both these official functions. which will be attended by Mayor Stewart.

On New Year's morning, the Mayor, accompanied by the City Clerk and the chairman of the Centennial Committee, will visit either of the two Charlottetown hospitals where the first baby of the New Year has been born. The child will be presented with a sterling silver mug and the mother will receive a bouquet of flowers.

At 2 p.m. the official opening of Centennial Year will take place in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Present for the occasion besides the Mayor and Councillors will be His Honor, Lieutenant Governor Prowse, Premier A. W. Mathescn, the two Charlottetown members of the Legislative Assembly, Queen's County members of Parlia- ment, the Chief of Police, the Fire Chief, the heads of the various city departments and alltformer rliving mayors. Parking meters came in for con- siderable discussion It the reg- ular monthly meeting of the City Council held last night. Councillors Johnstone, Mccormac and Keefe were not present for the meeting.

Councillor Elmer MacDonald brought up the matter of parking meters and felt that it was I very unsatisfactory condition to have some 121 meters in poor working condition.. He inquired from the police commission, "who was Mr Crockett's bole" Ind why the ser- vicing of the meters could get so far behind that 171 were out of working order It one time. Coun- cillor MacDonald made the sugges- tion that police officer Bishop be assigned to supervise the working of the meters and that Mr. Crockett be responsible to him.

Councillor I-lutcheson informed the meeting that in I recent sur- vey made it was shown that many of the meters, especially the new- est type installed, were of an un- satisfactory type. He felt that the condition of some of them was not the fault of the man looking If- ter them but in the machines themselves. Councillor Gsudet ex- pressed the opinion that it was wrong to censor Mr. Crockett for not giving satisfactory service un- til the findings of the police com- mission are more complete. Coun- cillor Gormley, chairmen of the Police Committee explained that many of the meters became cor- roded and that it was impossible for one man to keep them all working properly under these con- ditions. He said that in other cities where there were over 200 parking meters there was In addi- tional man for each extra M0. In Charlottetown there are 450 me- ters. He told the Council that the Police commission had the matter in hand and that it would be taken under advisement It I meeting of the commission. His worship expreued confidence in the Police Commission and sug- gested that the matter be left in their hands.

Mr. Ralph Stewart, an employee of the Imperial Oil Ltd., noticed the break early yesterday morning and re- ported it to police. Entrance to the warehouse was effected by break- ing the lock onlthe door of the ol- fice. wharflnger William Brown states that there was butter. eggs and canned chicken stored in the building to be loaded on the New- foundland boat. It is not known exactly how much of these goods is missing, but some has definitely been taken. No arrests have as yet been made.

The Irving Oil Company will commence the construction today of a new service station on the southeast corner of Prince and Grafton streets. and of a new storage plant near Hlllsboro bridge.

Only recently the site of the new service station was cleared by the demolition of an old residence. and preparatory filling and level- ling has been carried out at the location of the storage plant. The latter will be built near Hillsboro bridge on the Charlottetown side of the river and just west of where the shoreline and the bridge meet.

Already considerable, the con- struction of the new plant will represent a considerable expansion of the Irving Oil facilities in the province.

Chester Weeks of Fredericton who entered the P. E. Island Hospital on Saturday suffering from injuries received in a car accident. was reported last aven- ing as resting comfortably.

At is special meeting of the en- tire, Board of Trustees of School Unit No. 1 held last night at Parkdale it was decided to in- vestigate the possibility of build- ing a central junior high school for the unit.

The trustees are facing the serious problem of having to pro- vide from 12 to 15 new classrooms in the Unit during the next four years. School population has in- creased rapidly and at the present time crowded conditions exist in Spring Park, Parkdale, Central Royalty and West Royalty. In Spring Park School it is now ne- cessary to stagger classes in order to accommodate the children. A recent census of the pre-school children living in the unit indi- catea that a minimum of 300 more pupils will be enrolled in 1959 than in 1954.

The trustees have been study- ing the situation for some time and as a result of their deliber- ations have decided to investigate amongst other solutions, the pos- sibility of is junior high school.

The trustees are Messrs. Gor- don Rodd, chairman, Warren Burns, J. J. Paquet, Ernest Mac- Millan, George Cairns, Andrew MacRae, and Duncan Maclnnis.

Mr. W. C. MacLeod was elected president of the Caledonlan Club last night at an enthusiastic meet- ing held at the Rendezvous ban- quet room. He succeeds clansman George V. Fraser who was named Chief of the Club.

-Mr. Holden Sharp, 81-year- old resident of Linkletter Road, suffered a fractured left hip when thrown from a horse-drawn load of hay in Summerslde yesterday after- noon.

Mr. Sharp was about have the hay weighed on scales of Joseph Read & when a train approaching nearby crossing sounded whistle which frightened the horses and caused them to bolt, throwing Mr. Sharp to the pavement.

He was taken to Prince County Hospital by ambulance and his condition last even- ing was said to be, very good.

The many friends of Jack Walsh, Albany. will be pleased to learn that after nine weeks of Hospital- ization in the Victoria General, Halifax, he is being released from hospital on Thursday.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Walsh, are leaving today by car to bring him home. They are ac- companing Mr. Melvin Waddell, Albany, in his car.

Medical authorities at Halifax have informed Mr. and Mrs. Walsh that their son will have to return to Halifax in three months for an operation to put a steel plate in his head. The homecoming patient was the victim of an accident at Crapaud several weeks ago, suffer- ing serious head and back in-

Thrce preletes who have been Rectors of St. Duiistan'a Cathedral Parish during the past 46 years took part in s. service of unusual interest in the Basilica, on the oc- casion of the official opening of the newly redecorated basement and the erection of the new Stations of the Cross. The basement church was filled to capacity. Rt. Rev. Mon- signor Maurice McDonald, D.P., who was rector of the Basilica from 1915 to 1933, erected the Station with traditional ceremony. Rt. Rev. G. -A holdup wai averted at a Toronto branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia recently due to the courage and alertness of a. former Kensirlgton native and several other bank employees.

Mr. James K. Cousins, formerly of Kenslngton. In accountant It the Church and Queen Street branch, sped three blocks down Church Street after a would-be holdup man, but to no avail.

He fired several shots in the air but the thug escaped in the Christmas shopping crowds.

The bandit entered the bank and approached the teller, ordering him to "fork over the money as this is I hold-up." The teller stalled for time, asking the thug what de- nominations he would like and finally dropped to the floor shout- ing to nearby employees "get that guy...

The hold-up man bolted out the door and in doing so dropped two .32 caliber bullets.

Mr. Cousins grabbed I revolver, and, accompanied by five other bank employees, they raced after the robber.

Mr. Cousins was employed in the Charlottetown branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia. for several years both before and after the war, and has spent the last two years in Toronto, He is married and has two children.

He has I brother and sister, Mrs. Ivan Darrach, RN. and Mr. W N. Cousins, both residing in Kensimr- ton.

This festive tablecloth was made of percale sheeting. As it is sold by the yard a. cloth for tale largest talble may be made by simply re- peating the red and green holly designs as often as needed. The pattern carries directions on how to use fabric paints and gives prlnicd outlines of the designs to be cut out and used as stencils.
