Sanders isn't a man to boost undeserving speed but he said that he believed everyone of Mr. I.ogue‘s colts would turn out satisfactory performers. The Hockey News article didn't appear quite fair to us. During the winter. as we read the articles on Maritime Hockey in the HP! and nearly always had to wait until we got to the last paragraph or two for essertionn about the Is- landers, we were inclined to think that the writer was A little un- fair towards the Island team. However we didn't dwell to long on the matter as it was one man’: opinion against mother's. This last article however certainly called for some consideration.

The writer admits that Glace Bay were the poorest drawing cards in the League and that they nad been for the past two years. Yet by some process of tortured ieeuoning he holds up the Islan- ders as the scoundrels who are to blame for the financial plight of hockey in Maritime Major oom- pelitton. We'll admit that there are many reasons why the Islanders should not be in a four mm lea- gue with Cape Breton clubs but there are Just as many reasons why Halifax, aydney or Glace any should not operate. Each fall the mainland clubs have been crying for the Islanders. Apparently they now think the Islanders have served their purpose. It‘; pretty strong attitude to stomach.

The Sport Lodge Trotters edged H. C. Atkliison’s Nomads 46-M last night after three overtime periods of basketball to win the City Basketball League Championship in a. dramatic wind-up to the Lea- gue's operations.

Playing coach Harold "Red" Howatl. returning to the basketball court after an absence of more than two months on account of illness. scored the winning basket with 15 seconds remaining in the final overtime period.

From a jump at the Nomads foul line Earl Nicholson tipped the ball back to the moving Howatt. The ‘red-head took two steps wheeled and fired into the twins for the winning basket and the city championship after almost 55 min- utes of close play.

The Trotters won the opening game of the best of three series on Wednesday night by I 46-35 score.

The score was tied 38-38 at the end of regulation time last night. in the first overtime period Irving MacKinnon scored two points for the Trotters and George Scanne- bury scored I basket for the No- made.

Macxlnnon connected on two foul shots in the second overtime session while Rollie Diamond and George Scantlebury picked up sngle points to knot the count at 42-42.
