ing despatch from Gen. Hatch, President of the Ute Commission :
* Los Prvos Agency, Nov. 26.
All investigation was stopped this morn- ing by runners from the White River Utes, who stated that runners-from the Wintah Utes say that troops were moving to Win- tah Agency to make prisoners, and that all the Wintahs had left for the camp of the White River Utes, who now refuse to come in wntil assured that this is not the facet. The Indians have been informed by us that the report is false and that the troops are instructed not to advance during the present negotiations. An advance of troops would close any further business here. Ouray thinks the story was an invention of the Mormon element who are doing all in their power to create a disturbance. This will delay the commission six days until the White River runners return from the White River agency. Signed *‘ Ab. Hatch, Com- missioner.”

At Sligo, to-day, the magistrates decided that the evidence which Rea proposed to call in favor of Killen was irrelevant, and decided to close the case and commit Killen for trial, admitting him to bail. Killen re- fused to leave the Court and was carried eut. The Court was ordered to be cleared, but Davitt and Rea remained in defiance of the order. When the telegram containing the above was despatched, Killen-was in jail and Rea addressing an excited crowd.
Killen has stated to a reporter that some startling measures will ‘be taken in his be- half in the law Courts. Several Sligo gen- tlemen were ready to bail him to day.
Lonpon, Nov. 28.
In consequence of sume technical points in the inquiry having been omitted in the con- fusion, it is intended to apply for a writ of habeas corpus to bring Killen before the Court of Queens Bench, and to attempt to quash the magisterial proceedings on vari- ous points.
The assizes will be opened at Corrick-on- Shannon, on the ilth prox., when the bills will be sent to the Grand Jury. The Crown will then suggest the removal of the case to a special committee of the Queens Bench at Dublin.

The bark Malince, Capt. Gallant, cleared from. Summerside on Friday last, for Queenstown, with a cargo consisting of sixty-fo ar thousand bushels oats, and twelve hundred and twenty-four pieces . deals, shipped by the owner, Angus MeMillan, sq.
A correspondent from West Point informs us that an addition of 219 feet in length has been built to the wharf at that place. The contractor, Mr. Patrick McLellan, has finished his work in a manner highly creditable to him. Mr. Joseph McNeill was inspector, and the public will receive good. value for the money expended. The addition will render the wharf of great service tothe people of the surrounding country. 1

One of Bismarcks Little Dodges.
An amusing anecdote, of which Prince de Bismarck and Lord Odo Russell are the herves, is published in the Vienna Neue Freie Presse. Qne day when the English Ambassador was calling on. the Chancellor the conversation happened to turn on the numerous and annoying visits the latter had to undergo owing to his high position. ‘‘ How do you manage to get out of them ?” asked Lord Odo. ‘*Oh! I have several little dedges,” replied the chancellor, with asmile. ‘* For instance, i have arranged with my wife to enter the room and request my presence elsewhere on some pretext or another, whereupon of course, my visitor has to leave.” Mardly were the words out of his mouth when Princess de Bismarck opened the door and told husband not to forget that the hour for taking his. medicine had arrived. The effect of this announce- ment on the Prince and his visitor may be imagined, but Lord Odo took the incident in good part, and, after exchanging a laugh and acordial shake hands with the Chan cellor, took the hint and his departure.

The Government of Canada felt that, if it were going to introduce any system of encouragement to manufacturers, it must look for new avenues of trade, and we have directed our studies to that matter. We don’t feel that we are flies on the wheel. We believe that a Government has a pow- erful influence for saving a country, for re- lieving commercial depression. (Applause.) We sent Sir Alexander Galt, a man whom some of you perhaps know as being the man who taught the Americans to the value of Canadian fish. (Laughter.) We sent him and Her Majesty’s Government helped him as an ambassador to France and Spain for the purpose of opening up those markets. He laid the basis of

with both countries. We have the most cheering accounts from Madrid and Paris of an early reciprocal commereal intercourse, (Applause.) We have also opened negoti- ations with the Brazil country which wow furnish a market forall our fish, a large portion of our lumber, our agricultural implements and everything we can manu- facture in return for the opening market to the products. I have the satisfaction to an- nounce here to-night that, but a few months ago, I received a letter from our agent in Rio Janeiro stating that the Legis- lature had passed a bill for reciprocal trade wit’ all countries ; that it was introduced with a view to Canada, and that in a few days he expected to be able to inform me that arrangements would be completed for a steam line running monthly between Brazil and Canada. (Enthusiastic cheers,)
To show you, gentlemen, how fast our trade is increasing and how by our energetic action we are attracting the attention of the world to our position, only a month ago I received a letter from Japan, signed by a gentleman with an unpronouncable name, the direction manager of a line of thirty steamers that run between Japan and Hong Kong, offering to put on at a reason- able subsidy a ‘line of steamers between Japan and British Columbia. (Applause.) Wherever we can press the commercial in- terest of Canada and open new markets for her manufactures and products we wiil do so, (enthusiastic a ees Mr. Blake in his speech says—and I am glad to see he is evidently coming back to Parliament a wiser and sadder man-—he deprecates the use of abusive language. He deprecates the

merely because they are brought forward by a party opposed to him. I am glad'to get him back to Parliament and to know that he is taught a lesson that those b whom he is surrounded greatly needéd. He declares that he is independent and that he will be independent, but in his speech | find that his independ- ence is limited to threo theoretical cues- tions which will never be carried into law in his own time or in the time of any gen- tleman here. No matter what the Globe may say, when we come down to the work- ing of the Protective Tariff we find that he is still in the gall of bitterness in the bond of iniquity. He is still engaged in the worship of Gannilet & Swablois, the nos- trums of Free Traders, as humbly as he did anything in his life. Well, we must bo satisfied with anything we can get. We must as Sancho Panza says, not look a gift horse in the month, but we will pardon him if a stronger nature than his whips him into voting when he is wanted to vote or to run away. Discretion is the better part of valor. Mr. Blake declared at once that he was in favor of free trade and left it there. This subject has been discussed for years in Parliament and in the newspapers. {[t has been in the Globe so much so that the Grits themselves say} that they only read the New York news, a#the only other news that the Globe contains is most N. P. His early training did not qualify him to discuss a commercial question like that. Drs. Johnson ‘and Boswell went to the theatre one night. It was a little noisy, and Boswell being elated with the applause, commenced to imitate other animals, but was not successful. ‘‘My dear Boswell,” said the doctor, turning to him, ‘‘I think you better confine yourself to the cow. I believe that Mr. Blake had better confine himself to Chancery, and leave the cow to others. Mr. Chairman and gentlemen,

I can use, Mr. Chairman, truly the language that Burns used .to his noble friend, Earl of Glencairn :— “The bridegroom may forget the bride that was made a wife yesterday; ’ E’en the monarch may forget the crown that on his head an hour hath been; The mother may forget the child that sits so sweet on her knee, But I'll remember thee, Glencairn, and that thou hast done for me.” (Cheers. )
