Peter Rabbit had an ache in the hack of his neck. Yes, sir. he did so. It was all because he had sat so mug with his head tipped back ..3r.c11lng 01' Mistah Buzzard way up in the blue, blue sky. "It must be wonderful to just iioat in the air." said Peter. and sighed.

"Perhaps he thinks it's Just as iionderful to run about on the ground. He can't do that any more than you can Ily," said Mrs. Peter.

"He doesn't fly, he Just floats. He just spreads his wings and sails round and round. He hardly ever uses them." said Peter.

"I! holding them stretched out like that isn't using them. I don't know what is," retorted Mrs. Peter. They must ache from being held out straight like that for so long."

"He never seems to get tired," mid Peter. "I wonder if his chil- dren look like him." he added.

"Who said he has any children?" asked Mrs. Peter.

"Nobody. I just guess he has.

Everybody has this time of year." said Peter. "I've noticed that lately Mrs. Buzzard hasn't been sailing round way up there with 0) Mis- iah much. If they have a nest some- where. I can't imagine where it can be. Such big folks must have a big nest. but I've looked and looked all through the Green Forest, and haven't found it.”

There was a very good reason for Peter Rabbit's failure to find the nest he was looking for. There wasn't any nest. 01' Mistah Buzzard and Mrs. Buzzard are in a wziy lazy folk. They could not see ny sense in going to all the work of building a nest. They had simply looked around for a place where a couple of eggs would be quite safe even if they were not in a nest. They had found a small cave in ii. rocky ledge. and Mrs. Buzzard had said that this was just the place that they were looking for. In that little cave she had laid two eggs. and on those eggs she had sat contentedly until they had hatched. Now on the ledge of the front of that little cave were two children almost as big as their parents.

In all the Green Forest there was not another pair of children quite so homely. and quite so awk- ward. as those Buzzard twins. They spent most of their time during the day in taking sun- baths. When they moved about on that ledge it was in awkward hops. as yet. they couldn't fly. They couldn't run. they couldn't really

If Peter Rabbit could have seen them he would have been sure that they were the homeliest babies. the most awkward babies, in all the Great World. And a lot of other Green Forest folk would have thought the same thing. How they would have laughed could they have overheard 01' Mrs. Buz- zard telling 01' Mistah Buzzard that these were the loveliest chil- dren in all the Great World. You see they were looking at those young Buzzards through the eyes of love.
