Bia Eaes.—Mr. Michael Ready informs the Pioneer that he saw some exceedingly large “‘hen fruit” at the residence of Mr. Joseph Duggan, Ponds, a short time ago. One of the eggs weighed over one-quarter of a pound, while four of them almost tipped the scales with the pound weight on. One industrious bird gets the credit of the productlon.

Fioatep AsHore.—We learn from the Pioneer that the body of Peter Murphy, who was drowned in Summerside harbor last fall, floated ashore against the breast- work at the west end of that town on Fri- day morning. The body, which was in an advanced aa of decompusition, was in- terred in the Roman Catholic Cemetery.

ARRIVAL OF A NorweGtan Barogue,—The Norwegian barque 1. H. Schwensen, Captain A. Gyermundier, from Liverpool, arrived at this port at noon yesterday, She had a cargo of salt, 3300 bags of which are for Peake Bros. & Co., and 1100 bags for Richibucto. She will leave here for the latter place in about a week, where she will discharge the

remainder of her cargo. —$<>———

Frer-anp-Easy.—A free fight took place at the eastern end of the city on the way out to the driving park yesterday afternoon, (Quite a number of young men took part, one of whom was gathered in by the pulice. This business of drinking and fighting on Sundays is becoming altogether too preva- lent, and stringent measures should be taken to supress this evil.

Sueut Frre.—There was a slight fire in the cupola of Webber's furniture factory, Summerside, on Thursday evening. The fire started in a pile of excelsior. Ten minutes afterthe alarm was sounded, the steam fire engine was playing, and five minutes later the fire was extinguished. The Pioneer ssys the damage by fire is comparatively small, but, between the drenching of the house, the breaking of the windows and plastering and damage to the polish of the furniture, Mr. Webber estimates his loss at between $300 and $500. He has no

insurance.

Farewett Sermox.—The Rev. John M. McLeod, who is about to enter on a new field of labor in Vancouver, B. C., preach- ed his farewell sermon to Zion Church con- gregation on Sunday evening. He took for his text 2 Cor. 13 Chap. 14th verse: ‘** The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the Communion of the Holy Ghost be with you all. Amen.” The church was crowded to its utmost capacity. Many of the rev. gentleman’s friends and well-wishers from other con- gregations were present to hear the farewell of this faithfn] Minister of the Gospel,who, for the past eighteen years, has labored as the pastor of Zion Church in this city.

Vatvas_s Horseriesn.—A correspond- ent at Georgetown writes: “ The well- known blood mare Dollie, owned by Neil Nicholson, Esq., of Georgetown, drop & splendid filly some few days since. This filly is sired by Captain Jeff, a horse that has not only won laurels at his own county exhibitions, but also at the provincial fairs of Charlottetown. The dam possesses good style and action, isa fair goer, and has many admirers. This gentleman has also, by the same dam, and Pilot, a year- ling colt, which exhibits points of beauty and superior speed, and intends breeding from one of the fiyers this season. We

congratulate Mr. Nicholson on his great enterprise, and wish him every success in

his stock-raising.”

city, are colored, including the Hyer sis- ters. ‘* Out of Bondage” is a musical com- edy in three acts, representing life in the South before the war. The company carry special scenery and have a brass band. They appear at the Academy of Music, Halifax, on the 6th, 7th and Sth June.

Tuert.—The Pioneer says: An act of van- dalism and theft was committed late one night a short time ago at the west end of the town, near the railway crossing. The miscreant broke the town lantern near there and stole the lamp. In order to reach the top of the post they had to tear off the doorstep from | the residence of Mr. William Linkletter to stand on. One of the inmates heard the crash of glass, and on looking out saw the parties burrying down the railroad.
