Pretty Wedding Held At Bedeque United Church ‘

The marriage of Eleanor Joice daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Ballum of Bedeque, to James Melville Deacon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey P. Deacon of Mon- treal, formerly of Saint John, NB. took place recently in Be deque United Church, with Rev. G.A. CowperSmith officiating in the double ring ceremony,

Miss Mary Ingalls, Saint John. NB. played the wedding music and Miss Katherine Deacon, sis- ter of the groom. was soloist. Baskets of multicolored gladioli decorated the church and the guest pews were marked with miniature gold pom-poms tied with white satin bows.

The bride, given in marriage by'herfather, chose a gown of antique ivory satin, fashion-ed with a V-neckline styled with in sertions of Alencon lace, long sleeves and tightly fitted bodice The hooped skirt fell into a cha- pel train from a. panel effect hipliné. ‘

The fingertip veil, worn over the face. was held by .n' tiara of seed pearls, and she carried a cascade bouquet ‘ of Orange De- light roses. She wore a single

The matron of honor and at- tendants wore identical gowns of rosepoint lace over silk, fermion- ed on princess lines with silk omnmerbunds falling in a short panel in the back. Mrs. Ren- forth wore champagne shade with I matching model hat of net and a brocaded side leaf de- sign and she carried a nosegay of white carnations and white ‘mums.

pering to a dainty cluster on one side. They carried nosegays of bronze ‘mums.

The flower girl wore a short pale pink nylon dress with shir- red bodice and. wide sash with mattching ribbon hairband and she carried a nosegay of pastel colored sweet peas.

The bride’s mother chose a gown of dusky'rose lace, fashion- ed along princess lines with a slightly flared skirt and short sleeves. Her velvet hat and ‘ac- cessories were in duskty pink and her corsage was of white oarnations. The groom’s mother were an English blue sheath dress with a short jacket having three— quarter sleeve, and applique leaf trim. Her velour hat was a fea- ther trimmed side drape model in dusky pink shade worn with matching gloves and a corsage of pale pink carnations.

Eric Staclahouse stationed at Greenwood, N.S. was the grooms- man, and Rmald Haycox, Saint John, NE. and John Leonard Redfortzh were the ushers.

After the ceremony at recep- tion for one hundred guests was held at the bride’s home.

For travelling the btide chose 21" red liltéd'wool crepe suit com- plemented with white gloves and black accessories. Her hat was black velvet and her consage was white roses.

The couple left by car for a honeymoon trip to points of in- terest in the Maritimes, en route to Montreal, where they will take up residence.

The bride will resume her du- ties with the Northern Electric Company, Montreal, having pre- viously been employed by the same company in Saint John. The groom, until recently tem- porarily employed in the General Commercial Department, N. B. Telephone Company Ltd., Saint John, will further his studies to« ward in commerce degree in Mon- treal.

Rosenedth And New Perth Have An Achievement Day

November 14. was Achievement day for a group of the Roseneath and New Perth Women’s Institute members who took part in the Handicraft Course which is given by the Women's Institute.

The women who had taken the course displayed the articles: Leatherwork, gloves, b i l lfolds, hand bag-s, stencelling, runners, pillow clips. several patterns in satin cushions, weaving and sew- ing, that they had made under the direction of the instructors. Miss Bertha DesRoehes and Miss Doris LeClalr.

The members of the Stanhope W.l. met at the home of Mrs. Harry Mat-Lauohlan for their

annual meeting on November 4th. The president opened the meeting by reading an excerpt from a poem by Joyce Kilmer “Abide with me” was ung follow- ed by the Collect. Roll call was answered by 13 members and 2 visitors. Sixteen fees were paid.

The minutes of the last annual and last monthly meeting were read, approved and signed. The treasurer gave her financial re- port, which show-ed a balance of $27.79.

Mrs. McGowan expressed her pleasure for being asked to at— tend and praised the work done, and explained the details of the Tweedsmuir Quilt Block contest, encouraing the Women's Instit- ute members to enter.

Mrs. James Dewar of the Rose- neaith Institute, on behalf of the group thanked Miss DesRoches Charles Kennedy, in whose home, and Miss LeClair for the plea- sant and helpful instruction and presented them with gifts - Mrs. Charles Kennedy. in whose home, the course was held. was also presented with a gift. Each of these ladies thanked the group for remembering them.

The meeting closed by singing The Queen. '

A delicious lunch was sewed by several ladies, and a pig-asant afiternoon was brought to a close.

Mrs. Arthur MacEachern. form' erly of Charlottetown, but now of Dartmouth, N.S., returned to the Island Friday evening, after a three weekvisit to relatives and friends in Boston, Cambridge, Quincy, and other surrounding cities.

Mrs. Harry Matheson has re— turned home, from an extended visit to Boston and other Ameri- can cities.

While in Boston she visited her grandson, Alan Swanson who has been a patient in the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital since last Aug- ust, following a serious car ac- cident.

It is pleasing to note that he is recovering satisfactorily and ex- pects to be released by the New year.

“They do miss the folklore, the legends and ghost stories. that which once gave life its whimsey and mystery, and we heard by listening in to our elders' con- versation th en" we offered. “There‘s little of that now-there doesn't seem to be much occas- ion for it, nor much time.”

“Oh yes” the‘ mother nodded. “They miss somethings and gain others. And isn’t that always the lot of succeeding generations?”

The November annual meeting of the Kingsboro W.I. met at the home of Mrs. Bernard Massey on November 4th with an at- tendance of sixteen members.

The meeting opened by repeat- ing the Mary Stewart collect in unison, followed by the roll call. Minutes of last annual and last regular meetings were then read and approved.

Reports of committees were then given and the following new ones appointed. School committee reported dust bane needed. It was moved by Mrs. Ken Mac- Gregor that readers be bought for the library in the school.

Edwin C. Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Kelly, 49 Spring Park Road, graduated recently from the University of Manitoba's School of Architecture with the degree. Bachelor of Architecture.

Mr. .Kelly. a graduate of Prince of Wales College and an alumnus of St. Dunstan‘s University, is located in Winnipeg where he is now associated with a firm of architects.

Mrs. W. Dennis and Mrs. R. Dennis were hostesses at their home, to the November meeting of the Margate W. M. S. The worship theme “Are Strangers Enemies" was led by MiSS S. Johnson. The hymn sung was' “Stand Up and Bless the Lord.” and scripture reading Deuteron- omy 7:6.12.

The president, Mrs. W.Den~ his, conducted the business meet- ing. Thirteen members respond- ed to roll call with a verse of scripture containing the word “fruit.”

Mrs. J. Johnson gave a :pro- gram from- the study book “Con- cerns of a Continent" and told something of the life among the islands of the Caribbean. Mrs. W. Dennis led in missionary pray- er, and Mizpah benediction by all closed the meeting. Refresh- ments were served by the hos- tesses and committee.

Mrs. Warren Inman entertain- ed the Hampton W. I., ladies at her home on Monday evening, November 3rd. The singing of 0 Canada, followed by the Collect opened the meeting.

The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. L. J. Ayres, P.P. Paul Gallant, brother of the bride and Gregory Gallant, friend of the bride served as A1- tar Boys.

The church was at :lively de- corated with potted ferns and \baskets of gladioli. The gir-ls' choir sang appropriate hymns during the Nuptial Mass and “On this Day, 0 Beautiful Mother" during the signing of the regis- ter. The choir was und;-r the dir- ection of Rev. Mother Superior.

The young bride, given in mar— raige by her grandfather, Mr. J. J. Blacquiere, looked charming in white net and dropped lace over a satin floor-length gown fashion- ed with fitted bodice Off-shoulder neckline and bouffant skirt. She carried a bouquet of American Beauty roses. Her full length veil was held in place by a crown of tiny white pearls.

Ayres congratulated the y 0 un g couple and extended an invita- tion to them to return to this community whenever possible.

Following the reception Mr. and Mrs. Dempsler left by car on a trip through tic Maritimes For travelling the bride wore a blue fitted suit with white acces-' sories. On their return they took up residence in Dartmouth, N.S. where the groom is with the R. C. N. at Sheanwater.
