Chester Arthur Ford of North Fork appeared at special sitt- ‘, ing of magistrate's court in

charge of impaired driving to which he had previously plead- ed not guilty. Two witnesses were called during the proceed- ings. The first, and the only Crown witness. was Cnst. ohn W. Ilorrocks, investigating officer. from the RCMP Charlottetown detachment. He testified that. he had seen Ford’s late-model half-ton truck driving along the highway, straddling the white line and weaving back and forth over it for some distance before he stopped Ford and charged him with impaired driving. He testified also that he had found an unopened pint bottle of liq- uor in the back of the cab.

Lester O'Donnell, defense counsel, called Ford to testify on his own behalf. Ford said

that he had been working in his fields haying during the day.

ARSENAULT FUNERAL ~- The funeral for Philip Arsen~ suit was held Thursday morning from the Charlottetown Funeral Home to St. Dunstan's Basilica where Requiem High Mass was celebrated by his nephew, Rev. Adrian Arsenault. Very Rev. William Simpson was present in the sanctuary. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery where service was conducted by Rev. Robert MacDonald. Pallbearerz were: Francis Lacey, Edward Arsenaul-t, Ben Gallant, Walter Jay, Gordon Jay and Vincent Martin.

WALSH FUNERAL — The funeral for Mrs. Dr. James Walsh took place on Thursday morning from her late mid- ence, Mt. Stewart, to St. An- drew‘s Church where Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. George MacCormack who also conducted the service at the grave. Pallbearers were: Lane Pigot, Albert Macintyre. Roland Jay, Ernest MacEach- 0m. UF Drive Underway In 17 Island Areas

Campaign preparations for the current P.E.l campaign came to a head as or- ganizers and volunteer workers gathered in 17 Island centres last evening to get the drive un- derway.

Success for the campaign was Indicated by the enthusiasm of the workers and large atten- dance at the.meetings.

Director Reginald MacNutt was in attendance at '0" . where 32 persons met to plan the drive.

Rev. T.H.B. Somers was chair- man of a meeting in Athens High School, and William Hick- ey presided over Evangeline High School district meeting, where 10 out of 12 districts were represented. Campaign chair- man for the districts are Euclid Arsenault and Jonph Gaudet.

All school districts except one were represented all the Mu- couche meeting. attended by director George Cheverle. Chair- man of the district campaign is Ben DesRoches.

Training Program Scheduled For Ch’town Firefighters

The Charlottetown Fire De- partment will undertake a training program in fire-fight- Ing, starting next Tuesday, it was announced yesterday by a fire department spokesman. Included in the training oro~ gram will be demonstrations in the use of fog nozzles and the relaying of water from one pumper to another.

The training will be held each 'mesday night for about three weeks, from 6.30 pm. to 7.30 pm.

workshop at Saint John, N.B., sponsored by the Saint John Fire Department and the New

Brunswick Insurance Under- writers. They were: Cant. H.A. Crockett. Capt. B

The workshop dealt with new techniques in fire-fighting with lectures and practical demon- strations. A highlight of workshop was the putting out of a major oil fire, staged at the Saint John drydock.

About 170 Maritime firemen attended the firefighters’ work- shop.

Death Thursday Of r.w. Tweedy

The death of Thomas Weldon Tweedy occurred Thursday at his home In Vernon River. He was in his 70th year.

. eedy was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cephas B. Tweedy of Vernon River.

Throughout his life he was engaged in farming on the homestead at Vernon River, and years ago he was a successful exhibitor of Guernsey cattle at the Provincial Exhibition. He was at a quiet disposition and known as a true friend to all who knew him.

Mr, Tweedy is survived by two brothers, Dav-id Irving on the homestead farm at Vernon River, and Mr. Justice George Joseph of the Supreme Court Bench of Prince Edward Island.
