London Times Publishes a Deseriptien of the Four Steamers,

The London Times publishes « dés- cription of the steamships that are to be employed in the Anglo-cable service if connection with the Pacific line. The dimensions of the four Atlantic vessels are: 572 feet in length, 62 feet heam and a depth of hold of 42 feet, with a draft cn 30 feet, making them the deepest ressele afloat They are two feet deeper than the Cunard liner Lucania. This great depth is rendered possible by the fact that the Canadian and English harbors have deeper waters than the harbor of New York. The greater depth of the new new steamers allows of a stronge: hu'l, and will give better results in a seiway and also assist in the development of speed. The freight carrying capacity of the steamers is fixed at 3,750 tons each, in adJition to a coa!l-bunker capacity of 3,000 tone. Each vessel will accommodate 300 saloon, 200 second cabin and 1,000 +teer- age passengers. The comfort of the steerage passengers is especially provided for. The engines are of 21,000 horse; power, and they will drive the vessels at a ! speed of 20 knots per hour: in ordinary weather. The English port of arrival and | departure for the new line has not been | finally decided upon, but James E. Hud- dart. the promoter of the line, announced on Sunday that it would be Southampton, Milford Haven or Liverpool.

Suceumbs to the Guillotine at an Eariy Hour in the Morning,

At Paris, on Sunday morning at day- break, Emille Henry, the anarchist who was condemned to be decapitated for causing the explosion in the cafe of the Hotel Terminus in February last, was led from the prison De Laroqnette to the in- strument of death that stood just outside the prison walls in the place De Laro- quette.

In front of the prison there were animale that the police had hard work to remove. The crowd present was made up chietly of the lowest classes of the population.

At 4.12 o’clock the little gates of the prison swung open and the public execu- tioner passed through, followed by a priest, although the condemned man had refused to accept his ministratione. } An Fast Cambridge Man Kills His Wife

and Tien Cuts His Own Throat,

On Saturday evening, James Wilson, 40 years old, living at 225 Vine Street, East Cambridge, murdered his wife by cutting her throat ‘vith a razor, and then cut his own throat three times. Wilson, who is a laborer employed at John P. Squire & Co.’s pork-packing warehouse, has until lately been an inmate of the inebriates’ home at Foxboro, but was allowed to return home about three weeks ago. Both Wilson and his wife were drinking on Saturday and Sunday. While both parties were in the attic on Sunday. Wilson was taken with a fit of horrors. He seized a razor and made for his wife. She saw what his intentions were and tried to run down the stairs, but just as she reached the top of the stairs he caught her by the hair, pulled her head back and drew the razor across her throat. She fell down the stairs and was found dead at the bottom. Wilson re- turned to the attic and took up his position before a looking-glass, made three gashes in his throat and fell over on the bed. Their daughter discovered the body of her mother a short time afterwards and sent for a doctor. Wilson was found in bed perfectly conscious. He was taken to the hospital, where his wounds were dressed. The doctors say that he cannot live.

The present measured progress will best fit her to take a place of increasing influence in the empire, from which she cannot be spared without re- sults incaleulabiy hazardous to herself and the empire. The Times suggests that some Canadian should be made a member of the judicial committee of the privy council— perhaps Sir John Thompson, should he ever wish to withdraw from public life. The Times also snggests that the Canadian high commissioner, S'r Charles Tuy per, should be made an ex- officio member of the privy council.

Mr. Edgar moved his universal peace resolution and made aa interesting and able speech in support of it. The resolu- tion was seconded by Mr. Dickey, who took the ground that Canala was called 01 to support the idea of abitration be- cause many of the disputes which the Rritish Empire was |.kely to bave with the United States would relate to Canada.
