A Payixe Sprece.ation.—General Booth, of the Salvation Army, whose daughter was married the other day in London, sold 7,000 tickets to the wedding at $5 each. Two ¥ears Imprisonment.—In the St, John County Court a few days ago, Isaac B. Manning, for some time a prominent member of the Salvation Army, pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking and entering the office of the New Brunswick Railway Company, and taking therefrom the sum of $183, and was given to years imprisonment in Dorchester Penitentiary.

Live Losstens rox Boston.—A large trade is being done in shipping live lobsters from the southern part of Nova Scotia to Boston. ‘They are gathered by a schvoner, which is fitted with a tank containing salt water, into which the lobsters are turned as they are col- lected from the boats that attend the traps. They are then packed incrates, 70 in each, and shipped by steamer ta Boston. the business ig said to be a paying one,

A Horrible Death by Electricity.

Hatirax, April 29
Electric Light patrolman Webber met with a horrible death to-night. He climbed & lamp-post to fix the carbon on a lamp that had gone out, and thinking the current was not on, he threw his leg over the wire, limmediately the fatal current struck him, he reeled, grasped the wire with his naked hands and a moment later his corpse was suspended from the wires. The lower part of his body, thighs and hands were terribly burned. With his death-griphe hung on to the wires for a quarter of an hour before the current could be turned off and the bodyj taken down. This is the first fatal accident that has happened in connection with the Halifax Electric Works.

It is believed the Government will not press the bill to increase judges salaries this season.
Davies will ask on Monday a number of questions about the pilotage board of North Sydney and will move for a return for all monies collected and disbursed by said board.
Fire in a Railway Office.
Sr. Joun, N. B., April 29.
Fire started in the billing office of the Intercolonial freight shed at 3 o'clock this morning, and burned for two hours with terrible fierceness. About a hundred feet of shed on either side of the office was burned, and a large quantity of inward and outward freight, embracing almost all kinds of merchandize, was burned or rendered useless by fire. Some of the freight was of a very costly character. Many books and papers in the office were burned, The fire caught from the stove in the office. It will be impossible for several days to arrive at the exact loss. But at a very lowest estimate it must be $8,000 or $10,000.
Another Winter Steamer. Montreal, April 29. Capt. McElhinney, nautical adviser of the Marine Department, has left for Glas- gow, Scotland, where he will supervise che construction of a specially built steel vessel intended to be placed on the route hetween P. E. Island and the mainland during the winter months by the Dominion Govern- ment, | Capt. McElhinney will also visit Norway and Sweden, where he will inspect vessels built specially for piercing ice fields.
Labor Treubles.
Hawrax, April 29.
Considerable trouble exists between city stonemasons, who are nearly all out on strike, and city builders. ‘he former ab- solutely refuse to go to work unless they are allowed 30 cents an hour for working 1 nine hours a day.
The carpenters decided at a recent meet- ing that they must have higher wages, claiming that an amount equal to 16 per cent of the present wages should be added. The builders meet to-morrow to discuss the situation.
Barber Shops on Sunday.
Montreat, April 29. Ninety-two barbers and a large number of citizens have signed a petition to the police committee requesting them to pass a by-law prohibiting the opening of barber shops on Sunday.

Tur Westaway Aprirt.—A Port Hood despatch of the 23rd says :—The brigt. West- away, ashore at Judique since last fall, was carried out to sea by drift ice last week. On the following evening she was sighted off Cape Mabou surrounded by a meee? body of ice and drifting north. There are four men aboard well supplied with provisions. As she was not seriously damaged no danger is appre- hended. They can probably work clear of the ioe on getting beyond Cape North and mak Sydney, or if the wind changes, put back to the Strait of Canso.

BE IT ENACTED by the City Council of the City of Charlottetown, as follows :—
ist. The rate of Assessment for the year com mencing the Int day of January, A. D. 1888 and ending 3lst ci December, A. D. 1888, is hereby specified and fixed at the rate of one cent and one-twentieth of acent on every dollarof the value of Real Estate, as assessed by the Assessors of the said City, in their valuation rolls of such Real Estate, made and duly returned by them on the Nineteenth day of April, A. D. 1888.
