Sir John Thompson stated that ck a apprehension seemed to exist regarding Sir Hector Langevin’s portfolio and seat in the Cabinet, Sir Hector wrote the Premier yesterday morning asking that, as he in- tended in‘the first instance, his resignation might be accepted without further delay and Mr. Abbott has accordingly done ao.

Phe views entertained by the ministers was that Sir Hector’s resignation did not need to be accepted as in placing his resignation in the premier’s hands he had renounced the office, and yesterday's course was adopted to remove a misapprehension.

When the Bay Chaleur amendment will be returned from the Senate the whole scandal will be debated in the Commons. s

The races at Bangor finished on Saturday. They were hotly contested and were witnessed by a large number of people. The free-for- all pacing race in which J. Fred. Watson's (St. John) Ganymede and C, P. Drake’s Bay- ard Wilkes each took heats the previous day was finished, the latter taking the fifth heat and race in 2.238}. Ganymede gets second money. The free-for-ali heat was won by J. J. Bowen’s Jean Val Jean in three straight heets; best time, 2194. F. R. Hayden's (Lewiston) Emma E. was second. {Hortense, owned by H. L. Williams, of Hartland, took first money in the 2.34 class. Her best mile was done in 2.28}. John M. got second place Groveft Cleveland won the 2 37 race, making one mile in 229}. Lady Rockville came in secend. Sea King did not start and Frank Nelson was shut out in the first heat. Flora B. won the three-minute race for trotters and pacers ia three straight heats. Her fastest mile was finished in 2.31}. Leonard came in second each time.

The races :t Amherst begin to-morrow. A pumber of horsemen left the city this’ morning to be present. There will be forty- six starters in the six races, A grand time is expected.
