Un Friday there was no business of importance transacted. Col. Gray moved a resolution, as an addition to the rules of the Huuse, that the Assembly should meet punctually every morning at t:n o’clock,and adjourned punctually at six o'clock.

The draft of the Address in answer to the Governor's speech

' was submitted by the Chairman of the Committee appointed

to prepare it-—-Mr F. McNeill—and its consideration was made the order ot the day for Satarday.

The Debate on the Addr2ss commenced on Saturday. The Hon Mr. Coles, as leader of ‘he Opposition, reviewed the speech at considerable length, and ecumniented with much seve- rity on those paragraphs which refer to tie Laud Commission and the disallowance of the Bill which was passed 12st Session to give effeet to the award. Cul. Gray, Mr. Longworth and Mr Liaviland replied in defence of the Government. Messrs. iless. The Duke of Neweastle is represented as having said

that our legislation on the subject of the Commission was

premature. But in the Duke's despatch of the 16th June |

last, when acknowledging the reeeipt of that Bill, he did not |say anything about ite being premature, but expressed lis pleasure at the promptitude of the Legislature in passing it. It is not likely that the Duke would make such an egregious fool of himself as to condemn now an act which he praised a a few months ago. The glorification about the purchase of the Selkirk estate must suggest to every intellisent reader’s mind amusing reflec- tions on the conduct of the party in power, who reviled and mis-
