Intervarsity Christian -Fellowship is an inter-> denomdnational Christian student group on campus. These groups had their beginning in Canada in i929ﬁand have spread.

to over 70 universities- and college campuses.

I.V.C.F. exists primarily»

as a fellowship group with the by-product

of allowing Christianity to be witnessed through the members on campus. This campus ministry,

in Canada is made possible by thousands of Christians, students, faculty and 80 full- .time staff workers. Through these workers we become familiar

with other groups of I.V.C.F. in the area. Camps and conferences bring together students from uniVersities, high schools‘(Interschool Christian Fellowship) and nurses (Nurses Christian Fellowship) for a time of Bible study,fun and fellowship.

Although I.V.C.F. had its origins in Canada it soon spread through- out the world. Today the Canadian movements shares in a world family of similar student organizations' known as the Inter- national Fellowship

of Evangelical Students. The national headquarters for Canada is located in Halifax while the Atlantic regions' head- . quarters is in Halifax. I.V.C.F. can be found on the campuses of most of the universities and Colleges.in the Atlantic Provinces.

The U.P.E.I. chapter

of I.V.C.F. began in Janurary of 1976. It was formed from a desire on the part of _ a few students for Christian fellowship

on campus. From there. it grew to an average attendence of 20 plus last year and we

prayfully anticipate doubling our numbers this year as more publicity is put

forth and more learning acquired by those holding leadership ‘ positions in the group.. Our group represents

a vast number of

church denominations.

A common love of Christ is—what binds the group together. We are ‘ entirely inter- denominational and open

conducting with us Wednesday afternoon from 3 to 5. Thursday evenings at 5:30 the daystudents who wish to join us will meet for supper together. By

_6 we will be ready for the metting proper.

We encourage everyone to join with us. Bring along your sandwhich

so we can become acquainted over the supper time. The

time, the place of the weekly meetings and special events will

be posted around the campus. ’ '

A lot of thought and prayer has been invested in giving I.V.C.F.

a start this fall. "Deliverance", a gospel singing group from

Nova Scotia, held

three meetings on

August 21 and 22 sponsered by the I.V.C.F. group from P.E.I.

For Orientation week a number of special social activities such‘ as a coffee house, a beach party, sunrise service were intiated with special guests for each event. On display for

‘ distribution on registration days, we had literature concerning I.V.C.F. and our group in particular. In the future we have ideas for coffee houses, parties and meetings. Ted MacDougall will be

This year, with your help, we hope to make The Cadre a newspaper which truly serves the university community. Even though U.P.E.I., and The Cadre function primarily for students,we students affect, and are affected by, any and all events and situations in the university structure. The Cadre therefore invites everyone, including administration, support staff and faculty, to read our newspaper and contribute to it. I

Involvement can be direct, if desired, by joining the staff (check newspaper for meeting announcements) or indirect through letters or co- operation.

Faculty are asked to consider letting students choose, for publication, topics, for projects or termpapers, that are relevant both to the course being taken and directly to our university. Thus, the student investigates something he or she might be curious about, has direct interest in the topic, and through the newspaper shares findings with the whole university. The Cadre may be able to offer help in finding tipics for courses difficult -to relate to U.P.E.I. Interested students should inquire with their professors.

Let's take another step to make U.P.E.I. a better university. Keep in mind what J. H. Newman once said:

"Nothing would be done at all if a man waited till he could do it so

well that no one could find fault with it."
