One grand child Roland Mc- Nevin of Grassy Lake, Alberta, also three sisters Mrs. Don McKensle, French River. Mrs. William McKen- zie of Boston and Miss Annie Sheen o! Boston. The late Mr. William sheen was born at Bea View and was a son of the late William Sheen of that place. He married Alma. Mc- Ieod, daughter of the late Kenneth McLeod of Park Owner. He followed the lumber Ind milling business _there until he moved to Tyne Val- lcy in 169B when he purchased the lumber mill from the late _ James Yeo and has since that time oper- ated there to the satisfaction of his host of Patrons. had been in his usual good health until Sunday when he compl ‘ ’ of a slight pain in his chest, but nothing serious was thought of it at the time. Monday morning he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis, and shortly ﬂter passed peacefully away.

For a life time J. Nelson Smith had been a prominent figure in the in- dustriai life of New Brunswick and in his passing the province loses a good citizen. Especially was he ac- tive in his native County of Albert, where he lived practically the whole of his long and useful life and for which he did much by reason of his various business activities, giving employment to many men.

The late Mr- Smith was born at Lower coverdale in 1848. being a. son of the late Lewis Smith and Eliza (Chapman) Smith. In earlier life he was actively engag ‘ in farming, lumbering and shipbuilding. l-le was one of the pioneer lumbermen in the Southern part of the province, being the first to use the portable steam sawmill. In his shipping of lumber he canted on an extensive business diiect with English buyers, loading some ,of the largest steamshlps ever coming to the head of the Bay of Fundy. l-ie built and was a large owner in many wooden ships. includ- ing the "Nelson Smith," "Annie .E. Wright," "Carrie L. Smith," "Alert," and the "Edna M. Smith." The latter vessel, a harque. is mentioned in Wallace's famous book on ships of the wooden era, "Wooden Ships and Iron Men," as being the last square- rlgged wooden vessel to be built in Canada. '

Throughout his extensive buslncs career, the late Mr- Smith was known as a man of great integrityfand highly honorable in all his dealings. i-fe enjoyed the full confidence of those with whom he had business in- terests and was held in the high- est esteem by all with whom he came in contact in his various activities. ‘ Taking such keen interest in all affairs pertaining to the welfare of

The Seed Grain Market
