OTTAWA. (CF) - Government operations, in the red during June. jumped back into the black last month, pushing the surplus in the first four months of the fiscal year to 8230.40'1,000.

The Finance Department report- ed Friday that July revenues of s380.294.0()0 exceeded expenditures of 8343.924.000 by 545370.000, due largely to higher 't.ax returns.

In the first four months of the fiscal year beginning last April 1, revenues of s1.4:l9.658,000 outpaced expenditures of 31.209.451.000. But Finance Minister Abbott said in a statement that the surpius is no indication of how big a surplus the government will have at the end of the fiscal year March 31. 1954.

"The experience of the past few years has shown that by the time four months of the fiscal year have elapsed about one-third of the total annual revenues have been collected while only about one-quarter of the expenditures have been made.” he said.

July Revenues

The July revenues were up from s371,932.000 in June and s3B0,373.00(i in July last year. July expenditures were up from c387.- l41,000 the previous month and now s307.932,000 a year ago.

The July surplus compared with 372,441,000 in July last year and June's 515,209,000 deficit.
