The battlefields today. excepi where they are preserved as war memorials. would be hard to iden- tify as such. In many places throughout France and Belgium where the debris of war has been salved. the trenches filled. and the ground ploughed and sown. the sol- dier looking for landmarks would flnd himself quite bewildered. A month or two ago many of those fields which were No Man's Land. many of those familiar “paths of glory" which led to Ypres or the Somme. were deep under corn. and gleaners sang peacefully at their mu in the sunshine. Thus Time effaccs old scars and turns the bloodiest battles into romance. Ono summer with its grass and flowers will cover moat of the ruin that man can make. Every period in the history of the Island has had its leaders. When the country was covered with the forest primeval enterprising men realized the possibilities of ship- building. Following the example of these. every bay and river mouth in the Province eventually became a shipyard and hundreds of ships of all sizes were built and sold largely in the British market. This busi- ness continued and prospered until the materials of construction be- came exhausted. In the process commercial foundations were laid and from this period grew the commercial prosperity which we en- joy today.

Agriculture. which took the place of ship-building. is now our leading business. and. as in. the case~ of the latter. we have our leaders. Among these we may well class the prize- winners and the exhibitors at the recent winter fair.

There is this different-c between ship-building and agriculture; the materials for the former became exhausted. The materials upon which the farmer depends. namely. the soil. climate and enterprise, are inexhaustible. and we may look for- ward with hope to a continuance of the greainprosperity we have en- SOYGG. especially in recent years.

All honor in those mcn who are letting the pace and leading the way in our greatest industry agri- culture. including its comer stone. stock-breeding. Others will follow individually and in groups. and through their eflorfs our little Pro- vince will continue to lead in Cana- dian prosperity.

Tnc Supreme Court of Nova Scotiii. how- ever, held that the meeting in i925. was null and void. as were all proceedings thereat. and that the said congregation was and is a non- concurriug congregation -withln the meaning of the United Church of Canada Act. and restrained the trustees of the Church from using ilic real or personal property of the congregation in connection with the United Church. In the casc now before the Ottawa Supreme Court. judgment has been reserved. It is of deep interest in the ranks of adth the litigant churches. especi- ally in Nova Scotia.

Again Thanksgiving Day is at hand. and the people of Prince Edward Island and of the Domin- ion of Canada have much indeed for which to be thankful to the Giver of all good. The year has been a bountiful one. especially in those gifts which come to us from above in the sunlight and the rain. and which are shared by the just and the unjust. Thesc are quite be- yond human control and are the ‘counties of a beneflcient Providence.

We should also be grateful for the absence of serious ilatioual calam- ities by fire or flooduearthquake or hurricane or pestilence. such as vis- ited other lands less favored than our own. It is fitting that in this land of Christian churches the an- nual Thanksgiving Day should be observed in a spirit of devout and cheerful gratitude. And at such a time all those who are blest with comfortable homes. kind friends, health. strength. reason and the use of limbs and faculties should re- member that these are priceless beneflts. They are’ not shared by everybody. even in this happy Island.

From the breezy Prairies come wonderful reports of big yields of wheat and of sugar beets. Eight hundred and eighty-eight bushels of wheat from i0 acres. or 88.8 bushels an acre. are reported by Fred Stinn. whose farm is 35 miles east of Calgary.
