A coroner's jury last night found that tanley William Woodcock, son of Sergeant and rs. Woodcock. RCAF Station Summerside. came to his death,
on the evening of Sept. 8 when he was struck by a .22 calibre bullet fired from a rifle which was in the possession of Kent John Ilott at the time.
Th ry recommended that the use of .22 calibre rifles by teenagers be permitted only in the presence of competent ad- ults and that all such rifles licensed.
The decision was reached fol- lowing the testimony of six crown witnesses who included: Dr. A.A. Phillips. senior medlv cal officer at RC ummer- side: Dr . . Beer: LAC Don- ald Marlee: Cst. Fred Connolly of the Summerside RCMP e- tachment: Malcolm Keith Mat- tenson and Kent John Ilott.
Witness Llott. 16. said the ac- cident had occurred while he. Mattenson and the deceased were hunting foxes near t-‘ie RCAF station. The accident had occurred on RCAF property.
The three youths had been stalking a fox which the deceas-

He decided to move a little; closer for a better shot and when the object had not moved] he proceeded nearer before fir- ing toward it. He said when he s‘ioi he saw d rop what he} thought was the fox. When he‘ approached however. he foundr that it had been Woodcock.
The area where the accident occurred had contained waist- high weeds and bushes.

bit hazy at the time of the ac- cident. somewhere between 6,30 and 7 p.m.
In his testimony Dr. J. K. Beer stated that when the in- jured youth had been admitt- ed to hospital he had been un- conscious and he had immediate ly been given respirator treat- ment. He added that the youth's legs and arms were completely paralyzed and he was unable to breathe due to the severed spinal cord. He was kept alive for four days by the respirator, he said.
Following the youth's death. . Beer continued. a limited post mortem had shown that the spinal cord een com- pletely shattered and that pieces of the cord had been found in the muscles in the back of the neck. The bullet had entered the mouth and struck the spinal cord. it we earned.
Dr. Phillips testified that he had treated the injured youth at the RCAF station lnfirmary where he had been taken follow- ing the accident. Due to d' ficulty in breathing. he said, a tribe had been inserted in his
