Former Employee Charges Waste in CBC Operclions

OTTAWA. June 2 - (GP) -- Joel Aldrcd. former CBC an- nouncer, chargrd in a letter read yesterday to the Commons committee on radio broadcasting that he and his friends are appalled at the "wastage" that goes on in the CBC.

Mr. Aldrcd. dismissed by the CBC about a year ago. offered to appear before the committee as a witness. The committee agreed that a decision on whether or not he should be called should be de- ferred until he has filed particu- lars on his charges.

A. D. Dunton, CBC chairman, said that Mr. Aldrcd had been dismissed for "disloyalty" to lhe Corporation. His dismissal fol- lowed publication of an article in the Montreal Standard in which he discussed operations of the CBC. g

in his letter. Mr. Aldred said lhat since his dismissal he has continued as an announcer of some commercial programs carried by the CBC. As a result he has been

able to retain contact with CBC operations.

some of those who were great sonnet writers were. Milton, Mrs. Browning, Hartley Coleridge, Spenser, John Keats. Wordsworth. and among Canadians. Sir Char. ics G. D. Roberts and Lampmsn. D. M. Main made a good coliec. tron of English sonnets where we find the best in the language.

Shakespeare's one hundred and fifty-four sonnets have been one of the greatest literary puzzle; or our time. Who was the 'dark wo. man' referred lo?

There are some admittedly great sonnets in the language-one I have mentioned already, Michael Drayton's one of the best. now over 400 years old. Another famous one is that entitled Wight and Death” by Blanca White, where he shows that because day con- ceals the stars and darkness re- veals them, so it may be when we die, with Death the revealer. No seriously thinking Christian can doubt that the complete solu- tion to the perplexitles of the con- temporary world is to be found in the church, in the full expres- sion of a Christianity which goes beyond its own visible boundaries. This distressed world is not lack- ms, in generous and noble women Oilultfped with qualities no less fine than in any previous age. These some men and women would wel- come the church if they knew and understood it. Yet the world and organized Christianity seem to stand apart from one another for reasons nhich have not been suf- ficiently studied on either side.

The world is making an heroic struggle to save itself. In that struggle there are enlisted men and women prepared for great self-sacrifice and devotion to what. they think to be right but which is. in fact, often deeply wrorg and generally dlsorientcted. The result is that the world is carried deeper into the waste- land of darkness.

The cessation of the war did not save the world. The world in its present. condition. torn by ideological rivalries, fightng for an economic well-being consonant with the expectations engendered by education and the progress of science and technology is scarcely in the mood to accept the only real principles of peace and a new order.

These principles imply a longer and even a more painful struggle than the struggle against war. They imply a struggle against false values which men in general still worship. Men must, submit. their passions, their claims. their very wants to a prior necessity: the nccessi y for a common recogni- tion of a universal form of moral- ity founded on God's own revela- tion. This revelation comes through the Church, the Christian tradi- tion and through human reason. It is the revelation of God's own
