After being greeted and sent on by about 50 supporters in the Moncton train station things continued to happen, without a break, for the next week. At most stations where the train stopped for any length of time, we muld carry . our huge 28 foot nylon eagle off the train and be greeted by either a handful or hundreds of supporters. These groups ranged from about 30 out on a cold, snowy night with balloons and placards at Fredricton Junction, to hundreds at the Ottawa station with a bagpiper and the Hon. Tom McMillan, Minister of the Environment, there to lend his support. Even a candle-light vigal was held for us at 3:00 a.m. at the Regina station.

On the train, between stops, the work continued. We figured out finances, sold balloons to fellow travellers, got petitions signed and made placards to carry off the train. We also had a travelling musician and performer with us from Newfoundland who gave on-train performances. Between all this I still had time to spend a day snow shoeing at Mt. St. Hiliare, just outside of Montreal, visit the museum in Winnipeg, take the mono-rail over the new Expo site in Vancouver, and take the ferry trip over to Victoria.

Winnipeg on, I had become the 'sommd—person'. to work with the canera—man travelling with us to document the trip, since his previous sound-person could only travel to Sudbury. It was very exciting for me since" I hen becane "press" and covered the rest of the events with that perspective, getting the best seats at the events or hanging out of the back doors of a van while filming a parade.

When the "main train" reached Vancouver, there were thousands of people out to greet us and show their support. This support ranged from a concert in the park across from the C.N. Station, to a huge parade that travelled down many of the main streets of Vancouver, a rally at Canada Place in the afternoon, and a sold-out benefit starring Doug and The Slugs in the evening!

Already, although the final totals are not in and the final word is not in from the B.C. government, the 'Save South Morest Caravan' can be deemed a success in one of the main goals it set out to acheive - a public awareness of the controvercy. People now often ask me if we raised as much money as we had hoped, and whether we've influenced the decision makers, all of which we do not know yet. But the incident that confirmed the fact for me that we had raised the public’s awareness of the issue occurred during my return trip through Toronto where I over-nighted. I went into a small boutique and the sales woman saw my 'South Morest Caravan '86' button, and proceeded to tell me all about the Queen Charlotte's controversy. It was a good feeling to listen.
