Some members of Parliament still think it is up to the Do- minion Government to further the alleged barter with Russia on the terms which the Prime Minister defined, and which most of the people of the country will agree are impossible. Outside of certain circles, prompted by one or two newspapers which knew best themselves why they were doing it, the alleged deal was not taken seriously in the country. The Slratford Beacon- llerald comments truthfully that it would have been fairer on Mr. Bennett's part if he had stated that thc great majority of papers in the country were not carried away by the proposal at all. Experience told them that the way in which the propaganda was being worked up lacked the earmarks of sincerity. Thoy saw nothing to convince them of its genuineneso. In the home town of the syndicate, the Winnipeg Tribune declined to take it seriously, although without doubt the syndicate itself was ready to do what it could to go through with the proposition on its own terlns. But. says, the Tribune, “about 99 per cent. of the discussion has bet-n based on false information. The advantages or disadvantages of the deal were debated. whereas the only really important question was
