SUGAR PLANTER HERE-Mr. Theophilus, McLeod, of Orwell, a son of Mr. James M. McLeod, has arrived on the island from Cuba on u two months’ visit to his fa- ther and other relatives. Mr. Mc- Leod is a sugar planter at Orientc, near Santiago do Cuba. He has been engaged in the business for the past nine years, his brother being associated with him. He last visited the Island about four years ago. Kensing- ion, died on June 6th, after an ill- ness that lasted only a few hours, Although all that human power could do to save her was accomp lished, but Providence willed other. wise. To mourn her early death she leaves her husband and a son, three years old, as well as her parents and three sisters and one brother, who live at Cape Traverse.

Mrs. John L. McLollan, formerly o; lndiiin River, died in Boston, Mass, on May 31st, after a short but fatal illness. Mrs. McLellan had been ill only at short time, hence hcr sudden and early death at the age of forty_four years, has irausod the most poignant grief. Her husband and hcr (laughter were at her bedside from the time she was taken to the hospital.

AN ISLAND CENTENARIAN.—- The last issue of the Atlantic Leader Halifax, contains n por- trait of Peter Ferguson, of Sunny Brae, Nova Scotia, and says: The above picture will be of great in- terest to the people in the Mari- time Provinces. lt is a picture of Peter FCTQUSOH, who is said to he the oldest man in Canada. He lives at Sunny Brae, Pictou County. He was born at Charlottetown, P.E.l.. on April 2nd. 1813. He experienced the great Miramichi fire, is still active and every day walks two miles,‘ siiws wood, looks after a garden and- spends an active life with his daughter, Mrs. Genser Price, Sunny Brae.
