TO MOBILIZE AN ARMY.
WASHINGTON, D C, Sept 21.—The mili- tary movements are being directed rapidly towards the assembling of a large army in southern stations for winter camps and preparatory (o the military eccupation of Cuba and Porto Rico.
About seventy thousand troops are now located in the touth, and orders wil! be issued sending the First, Second, Sixth, Ninth and Tenth cavalry from Montauk to southern The purpose is to
stablish winter camps between the 31 and 35 parallels.
The major part of the army thus as sembled is destined for service in Cuba with a much smaller force for Porto Rico and a reserve inthe winter camps. It is not the intention, however, to send the army of occupation to Cuba until after the unhealthy season is passed and meanwhile the troops will be put in the best possible condition,

A very fair likeness of Mr WC Turner, president of the PE Island Provincial Union, appears in the last issue of the Christian Endeavour Benner rublished in Montreal. The likeness is accompanied by a very interesting letter from Mr Turner. In the same issue of the Banner there is a capital report of the C E Convention at Malpeque, and others matters of especial interest to the society here.
Mr. T.C. James, Jr., has our thanks for late Vancouver and Victoria papers. They coniain particulars of the recevt disastrous fire at Westminster,in conaection with which much credit is given Mr W. H. Kent, manager of the Burrard Inlet and New Westminster Telephone Company, for the efficient service he provided in the face of the fact that the office at New Westminster was destroyed iv the early stages of the disaster. It may be interest- ing to know that Mr. Kent isthe husband of Mre, Florence Findley-Keat, who bas been visiting in Charlottetown for some time past.

After they were taken, the various
Governments found a_ constitutional difficulty, which was referred to the courts.
Then, in anticipation of a Federal cor~ test, Mr. F.S. Spence moved at the Liberal convention of 1893, to which he was a delegate, that a Dominion plebiscite be held.
Ii is stated that Mr. Spence’s party leaders have given assurances to opponents of prohibition that no matter bow the vote goes there shall be no prohibizory law.— Mail and Empire.

A SEPTEMBER WEDDING.
A guiet but pretty wedding took place on ThurSday, at the residence of James Palmer, Esqg., Ozendyke, De Satie, when his daughter, Amelia, was married to the Rev. James McCurdy,of New Richmond, Quebec. The bride wore her travelling dreas, @ tailor-made gown of grey cloth, while the bridesmaid, Miss Lily McCurdy, sister of the groom, was dressed in pivk. The ceremony took place at one o’clock, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. George Millar, of Brockfield. The pre- sents were numerous, including one from their Excellencies the Earl and Countess of Aberdeen, who have a summer cottage at New Richmond.
