lalso want to introduce a campaign that is a huge priority for me right now. CFS( Canadian Federation of Students) is promoting a campaign called ‘‘Enough is Enough! Stop the Cuts’’. National Student Day (October 17) will be our target date, but there will be information available between now and then. Please, if anyone is interested in helping us with this cam- paign, come down to the Student Union offices at the Barn or give meacall at 566-0648. Any innivative ideas as well as help with posters and circulation of the campaign materials is greatly needed. We want the community and the government to know how we students feel about being in debt already but only promises for increases in costs for our future!!!!

CHAIPERSON’S REPORT ORIENTATION 1991

Frosh Week 1991 broke all records for attendance!! Instead of the 275-300 Frosh we were expecting, we were pleased to have approximately 435 Frosh this year!!! However, because of this large number, with only 150 pre-registered, the registration process was very slow. (By the way, many thanks to Joe Murphy our Student Union President who wrote out over 300 feceipts that day!!!)

One of the daytime activities was Gumbota, a variey show put on by the committee and Frosh and M.C ‘d by DJ Joel Ives. Tuesday’s Playfair was done by Egan Henderson and the Coca-Cola Classic rovin’ tadio. Shinerama was also successful, with over one hundred keen shiners out for the day shining shoes to faise money for Cystic Fibrosis.

4 The evening activities were especially well attended and included a Casino Nite, Toga Party and Much usic Video Dance Party. The big winner on casino ite was John Kelly who won enough funny money to ly a free course, donated by the University,

Congrats John!!! Toga nite was really well attended with almost everyone sporting their bedsheets. We had togas of every shape, size and color on the go - blue togas, striped togas, psychadelic sixties togas, Canada flag togas, short togas, long togas...you name it, we had it!!! The Much Music Video Bash was highlighted by an auction of committee members as slaves, which raised $55 for Shinerama. Also worth noting that evening was an appearance by Melvin and Eugene, who haunt us from Gumbota.

The Frosh Banquet attendance is usually around 100 people. However, this year we had about 200 people attending. The task of choosing the two Frosh who seemed to be most involved wasa difficult one. However, after some thought we choose Heidi Lipton and Ray Murphy and they were each awarded a plaque at the banquet. In addition, we awarded prizes to the committee members who dispalayed outstanding spirit and leadership during the week. Proud recipients were Cindy Arsenault, Peter Rashed and Kevin Bustard, leaders of the Orange team. Which reminds me, the team that scored most points during the week was the Orange team. They have won a party with a six foot sub from Subway. Everyone on Orange team please contact Peter (Rainbow) Rashed at 2-9989 after 5:00, or Tracey Arsenault at the Barn during the day.

These are only a few of the highlights of what was no doubta very successful FROSH WEEK 1991 !!!!

As chairperson of Orientation 1991, I have so many people to thank for their help. First of all, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you the Frosh, for dispalying such enthusiasum and making the week whatit was. The committee can do all the planning possible in the world but with out you guys there is no Frosh Week!!! I invite you to consider becoming part of the committee in the years tocome. Secondly, there is a group of dedicated individuals who really put alot of hard work into the week. These persons are your hyper-kenetic committee members, who practically lived at the barn for five days, and went on an average of 3.25 hours of sleep a nite!!! I can’t express how much | appreciate all your efforts. Thanks guys!! Then, there are countless other people who kept me from going insane all summer - Melanie Johnston, Jo-Anna Murphy, Heather Love, Betty Johnston, Jason Inman, Marion Basha and everyone at Student Services. Thanks for all your advice and patience!!! Andto everybody: Thanks for all the laughs and the memories that I'll keep forever!!!
