Way to Keep a Cow Still While You Milt Her.

We mary recall to our readers the de. vice adopted by a milker in Ohio to pro- tect himself from getting his eyes switched blind by the cow's tail as she tried to defend herself from the flies, Milking in a darkened stable has been suggested to keep flies away, but the arrangement shown in the picture is more convenient and costs nothing.

A better arrangement still would be to get a coarse common cotton fabric and make a cow blanket. It could be made to cover all her neck and fit ove: her herns. A cow's neck is very sensi- tive to the ravages of flies. Only one bianket for each milker would be suffi cient, as it could be moved from one animal to another, as required.

She is owned in New York state. When De Kol was 4 years old, she produced 382 pounds 6 ounces of butter in seven days. When within a month of 12 years old, her milk yielded in seven days 2€ pounds 9 1-5 ounces cf butter. In one day she made 4 3-10 pounds.

The tremendous udder, which spreads her legs far apart in the rear, shows the machinery she has for producing milk and butter.
