Rugby Highlights

The UPEI Rugby Panthers played three games over ‘the October 12th weekend; the first team played Dalhousie and King’s College, while the second team played Dal.

Dalhousie scored early and kept the pressure up when they played the Panther’s first team. The final score was Dal. 32 - UPEI 6. Adam Cosquay scored two tries for Dal., while Bill Stoner, Ashley Redman and Doug Hartland all scored single tries. Tony Galevin scored on two penalty kicks for Dal. Todd McInnis scored UPEI’s lone try. With the win, Dal. maintained their unbeaten season, while UPE] suffered their first loss.

"University," remember the old days, back in high school? Every time the mere mentioning of the word, we would get this scared-exciting feeling not knowing our expectations or future experiences. Before we know it; Kaboom!! We're freshmen exposed to the great field of adulthood that takes us years of wisdom to accomplish. We leave our family-knit high school behind, and expose ourselves to many faces. University isn’t a great drastic change unless you live far from home. There’s more work, but we have more free time to accomplish the work. However studying is the hard part. Most of us seem to lack motivation and incentive. The courses require more concentration, during class, were not given the time to apply what we’re learning. We alone are responsible for learning the class material, and no one is going to get on our back about it!

UPEI’s second team played against Dal’s second team next. Bobbie Bernard scored a try for the Panther’s as did Xander Allison for Dal., tying the game at 4 points each.

UPET’s first team had more success on Sunday when they played Kings. They defeated Kings 18 - 0 on the strength of 6 penalty kicks by Danny Johnson. With the win, the Panther’s assured themselves of at least second place for the season. The Panthers will play Mt.A. in the playoffs on Saturday at UPEI, and will play at Dal. on Sunday.

Whether you live in an apartment, residence, or at home; we'll all-admit it’s extremely difficult to study. Residence is great for a social life, and most of us felt that’s an ideal way to begin, thinking we have plenty of time to buckle down. The apartment has a slight more amount of responsibility, but it can be kind of crazy too. In contrast to home, we’re free,~ and we are living and absorbing every minute of it. The upper classmen have one up on us. They are more familiar with responsibilities and being out on their own. Frosh’s are still making mistakes and learning from them. I guess you could say that we're relishing on our accomplishments form high school graduation, and we want to be rewarded with a good time.
