HALIFAX. Dec. 10—Four Nova Bootlana. members of the 1935 Allan Cup team, will leave Hali- fax next Monday for Port Arthur to join the Bearcats in training for the Olympic Games.

Manager Jack Conn, who piloted the Halifax Wolverines to the Canadian championship last spring, tonight informed the Can- adian Amateur Hockey Associ- ation that Captain Ernie Mosher, Vince Ferguson, Chummie Lawlor and Daddy Bubar had accepted the invitation to play on the Olympic team.

He said nothing about his pro- test about the team playing under the name and colors oi Port Ar- tliur Bearcats. and the matter was believed to have been dropped as far as he was concerned.

Last night Conn told E. A. Gil- roy, President of the C.A.H.A. that since Wolverines were pre- pared to contribute as many players as Port Arthur the “all star" team should be called Hali- fax Wolverines and he should be allowed to manage it.

Today Conn received the-follow- ing reply from the ,C.A.H.A. Pres- ident:

"Canada is not sending an ail- star team. Port Arthur has all of last year's team with the exception of one ready and anxious to go. Out of courtesy to Halifax players, who you said would like to go, and because the CAI-IA. desired to extend similar courtesy to Montreal Royals, Port Arthur was compelled by the C.A~.H.A. to drop some of their players for these men. whether you take it across the Empire, across the world or lust concentrate on Canada. It bows out after presenting a gaudy show here and elsewhere.

that was the year New Zealand turned Jack Loveiock loose on America's mile runners, and the Oxford student ran away from Glenn Cunningham and Bill Bon- thron. Perhaps that was the high point for the Empire that was cclebrating the King's Jubilee. But 1935 gave Canada some good too. 1t brought Chuck Campbell of Toronto before the world, it established Thomas Patrick German as hookers supreme master-mind and it put Sandy Somerville back on his golfingthrcne. It was a good year for the old-timers of sport and it wasn't unkind to young fellows. Hockey got itself into difficulties and out of them during the year. Halifax Wolverines won the Allan Cup and the right to represent Canada at the Olympic Games next year. The team broke up al- most under the noses of the am- ateur hockey people, who moved quickly to install Port Arthur Bearcats as the Olympic team. Montreal Maroons, responding to the magic touch of German, won professional hockey’s highest prize, the Stanley Cup. They suc- ceeded Chicago Black Hawks who won the title in 1934, also under the leadership of Gorman. Mar- oons trounced the National League champions, 'I‘oronto Maple Leafs, 1n three straight games. Hockey in 1935 featured Charlie Conacher again as its atest scorer. Eddie Shore came b to top all deienoemen in the sport.
