An enjoyable concert of two- piano music was given in the Prince of Wales College hall last night by two outstanding Mari- time artists, Rdsabelle and Kel- ley -701165. D.lllus.. in the P.W.C. Concert Series which has brought several noted musicians to Char- lottetown in recent. years'. Dr. Jones and Mrs. Jones appeared in I recital here two years ago. and have since travelled widely as concert performers. Their pro- gramme last evening. comprising I variety of classical and mod- ern works. was warmly applaud- ;i. and encures were iesponded

Of special interest was the per- formance of an original composi- tion. Suite for Two Pianos, by Dr. Jones The three short move- ments. Waltz. interval and Pan- tomime are pleasingly contrasted and utilize effectively the re- sources ol both instruments.

The programmegopened with a selection from the works of the great Johann Sebastian Bach's eldest son. Wilhelm Friedmann (1710-1734). who by common .e.f pute was the most gifted of the master's children. but left little in the form of published ma-l terial. The mark chosen was the; Antlaiitc imiicriiciit from 3 So- nata for two cinibzili - a term used originally for the dulcimer. but later applied to concerted composition for other instruments.

This was followed by two move- ments. Allegro molto and Rondo nioderalo. from a piano duegi Sonata Opus 6. by Beethoven,l which were given I magnificent- rendition. bringing out die full i range of expression and sustain- ing quality of the work.

Another finc interpretation was that of the Sonata in B Flat by the liith century Italian composer Mtizio Ciementi. The three move- merits, Allegro. Larghetto Ind; Presto, were played.

Among the moderns represented on the programme were Rach- maninoff, in a waltz from the Suite No. 2. Opus 17; the French composer Darius Milhaud in two numbers. A "destitute wife." under the Act is described as I wife who is in necessitous circumstances be- cause of her husband's refusal or neglect. without sufficient cause. to supply her and their infant children (if any) with food. cloth- ing and other necessaries.

Dr. MacMillan: "I welcome this bill. It is long overdue." Recalling his experience with the Children's Aid Society. he said that on many occasions there was not very much I judge could do in circum- stances of broken homes. because they didn't have an act that would give them authority to deal with the offending parties. "I can see a hope in this Act that will give the judge I chance to apply remedial measures." he laid.

ARNPRIOR. Ont. (CP) - Can- ada's l,300 hospitals all should have disaster plans to meet peace- time .-meigencies which could be quickly ex anded if war comes. a top hospital executive said Friday.

Dr. W. D. Piercey. executive di- rector of the Canadian Hospital Association. told I class of doctors taking a course at the Civil De- fence College here that he would like to be able to say every Cana- dian hospital is ready. But that was not the case.

"However. we feel we are get- ting somewhere." he added.

Four plan - mapping meetings have already been held in Victoria. Hamilton, Montreal and Halifax to prepare hospitals in those cities for any disaster. Other hospitals

Dr. Piercey said that under dis- aster plans hospitals should pre- pare to double their ordinary ca- pacity jn time of emergency and even more than double capacity in time of war.

The disaster plans should in- clude provision for movement of probably 80 per cent of the or- dinary patients out of hospital to make way for casualties.

There should be a "disaster cup- board" of reserve supplies of blood plasma. surgical dressing and other essentials. ,

In war three-quarters of Can- ada's hospitals would be in urban target areas. Emergency hospitals would have to be set up, possibly in sanatoria removed from the scene of bombing. I

EDMOND MONAGHAN

Citizens of Kelly's Cross and surrounding districts were shock- ed and 'dened to learn of the death ofxEdmond Monaghan in the City Hospital at an, early hour on the morning of February 7th. He had undergone an operation about a week previously and was thought. to be recovering favorably up un- til I few hours before his death when he took I sudden turn for the worse and in spite of the best of medical skill his did not rally and passed away peacefully forti- fied by the rites of his church.

Although Edmond had not been feeling well for the past few months neither he nor his friends consid- ered his condition serious. His death therefore at the com- paratlvely early age of fifty-one caused I great shock and deep sorrow to his numerous relatives. friends and acquaintances.

Edmond. who was I sonlof the late Mr. and Mrs. James R. Mdhaghan of Kelly's Cross and with the axception of five years .while he worked in Trail, British Columbia. lived all his life in Kel- ley's Cross. He was of I cheerful disposition. I congenial companion and I kind and hospitable neigh- bour. He made friends easily and was over welcome at any social gathering. I

In 1927 he married Miss Clara Mccardle of Tyrone. Int 65, who now mourns the loss of I kind and loving husband. Among others left to mourn his passing are Char- lie Gauthier who from I very small boy made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Monaghan. where he found I true Christian home and I real parentiai love from his foster parents.

Charlie came front Toronto to attend the funeral. and while in conversation with the writer said:

In previous reports from Sept. lies. The Canadian Press errone- ously referred to the epidemic in northeastern Quebec and Labra- dor as rabies instead of distemper. Epidemics in both areas have been officially i ntified as distemper.

Confirmalon of the nature of the epidemic came from In offi- cial of the provincial agriculture department in Quebec. which sent 816.000 worth of serum and vac- cine for 2.000 dogs.

Mrs. Oliva Dionne Undergoes Operation

NORTH BAY. Ont. (CP)-Mrs. Oliva Dionne. mother of the quint- uplets. underwent an operation in a Montreal district hospital two weeks ago. her husband said Fri- day.

Mr. Dionne said the operation was not of I serious nature and that she is recovering nicely. He has talked to her by telephone and she may return home this week- end. he added.

Mrs. Dionne has been I patient at the hospital Notre Dame de l'Esperance in the Ville St. Lau- rent district. It is the hospital where two of her daughters. Ce- cllle and Yvonne. are nurses in training.
