Police Calming Teen-agers In Edmonlonjilla.

EDMONCDDN. June 25 -(CP)- Chief Constable Reg Jennings said today that "flying squads" or police cars are "calming down" the teenagers -and service men whose street fighting has plagued Edmonton for more than a week.

Chief Jennings. said Sunday night was "very quiet" following the arrest of 15 men Saturday.

The is were arrested Saturday night as police patrols cracked down on groups of teenagers and service men before fights could begin. Cars carrying members of either of the factions were stop- ped and occupants searched for c led weapons.

Hundreds of curious citizens

earlier in the week. Many traffic snarls resulted from motorists who slowed down to a snsii's pace whenever they thought a fight would begin.

Numerous complaints were re- celved by police from persons who said their cars had been stopped by service personnel and the oc- cupants searched and in some cases beaten.

Allan Shaft Miners- Going To Cape Breton

Local interest attaches to the charges made in the House of Commons with regard to the acti- vitles of the Ming Bung Indus- trial Company of Canada alleged- ly incorporated in Charlottetown and operating in pommunist con- trolled waters under the Canadian flag. An intensive search yester- day failed to locate any such com- pany here.

The company has been much in the news since it was revealed by Opposition Leader George Drew that seven ships were transferred from the parent Chinese company to its Canadian subsidiary and the ships transferred to Canad- isn registry. By specal orders-in- council the ships were permitted to -operate without the full com- plement of officers qualified under the Canada Shipping Act but fly- ing the Canadlan fihg.

Mr. J. Angus MacLean, Progres- sive Conservative and veteran of distinguished war service. was elected 'over Liberal opposition in yesterday's Federal by-election in the Queen's constituency of Prince Edward Island.

With 1i6 of 118 polls heard from. Mr. MacLcan had received 9,426 votes as compared with 9,013 for Mr. Cecil A. Miller, Liberal can- didate in the two-party contest. Some 20.000 persons were eligible to vote in the riding.

Early voting was slow yesterday but picked up during the after- noon. only to be hampered again by heavy rain in the last three hours of balloting.

The election became necessary with the death of Mr. J. Lester Douglas. One of the few remain- ing dual ridings in the country. Queen's had been held since 1045 by a. Liberal and a Progressive Conservative. Mr. W. Chester 5. McLure.
